NO PARKING ZONE TO HELP FIREFIGHTERS, PLOWS

A no-parking zone will be added to a Russell subdivision street after the fire department said the parked cars made it difficult to open their truck doors. Parking will be banned on the east side of Twilight Avenue between Central Park Boulevard and Azure Street after Township of Russell Council recently adopted a bylaw to this effect. Russell Fire Department told council cars parked on both sides of the road had made it difficult both to enter the street and to exit emergency vehicles. The Public Safety and Enforcement de- partment monitored the street and found that parking was common on both sides of the road during weekends and overnight, “which could create an obstruction for larger vehicles such as fire trucks and plows”. The department recommended that the bylaw be passed in time to match the winter parking regulation on November 1, which would give residents time to find alternative parking. It also recommended that parking also be banned on the south side of Central Park Boulevard between North Russell Road and Azure Street to discourage drivers from moving their cars to that street instead. Emergency services were called before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday to Embrun near Cam- bridge Public School on Route 500. The Ornge rescue helicopter was called and landed on the school grounds. An Ornge spokesperson said a male patient in his 30s was transported to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus with critical injuries. Police and para- medics were in attendance. —Stephen Jeffery VIOLENCE CONJUGALE Une femme de Casselman a été accusée d’enlèvement et d’entrée par effraction vendredi. La police soutient que la jeune femme de 26 ans est entrée dans la maison de son ex-petit ami à North Glengarry et a tenté d’enlever leur enfant. Elle aurait aussi proféré des menaces et menacé d’endommager la maison. La police a accusé la femme de méfaits, de menaces, d’entrée par effraction et d’enlèvement.– Stephen Jeffery DRIVING CHARGES A man from The Nation will face court next month on speeding and impaired driving charges. Police stopped a driver along Highway 138 in North Stormont Township on Saturday night for travelling more than 50km/h over the 80km/h speed limit. Officers alleged the driver was also under the influence of alcohol. Daniel Thibert, 53, was charged with racing and impaired driving, and will face the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on December 10. – Stephen Jeffery

there’s no parking on the street in the winter,” she said. “Some people may need to get a shed or clean their garages unfortunately, but they can still park on one side of the street with this bylaw.” The move is expected to cost $840 for 12 signs plus installation and labour.

Le Canton de Russell ajoutera des mar- quages verts, de nouvelles bornes et des panneaux pour informer les automobilistes de l’existence du sentier à deux intersec- tions près de l’aréna d’Embrun au cours du premier semestre 2021. Le sentier, que les cyclistes et les piétons empruntent, est attaché au reste de la chaussée, mais est séparé par des bornes réfléchissantes et flexibles. Le conseil municipal a voté lundi soir pour approuver le plan d’amélioration de la visibilité et de la sécurité du sentier pié- tonnier. Les membres du comité des parcs et loisirs avaient auparavant exprimé leur inquiétude quant à la sécurité du sentier et
