BELLE RÉCOLTE DE MÉDAILLES POUR LE SSC Une quarantaine d’élèves représentaient le Séminaire du Sacré Cœur (SSC) de Grenville-sur-la-Rouge au Championnat régional d’athlétisme de l’Outaouais, qui se déroulait à Gatineau, le vendredi 18 mai dernier. L’équipe du SSC a remporté 23 médailles et a terminé deuxième au classement général sur les 24 institutions présentes lors du championnat régional scolaire. Entre autres, Anne-Marie Gagnon
a récolté l’or au lancer du poids et du disque. Maximilien Legault et Simon St-Georges ont également décroché l’or aux poids et Rosemarie Diotte et Sylvain Joubert ont raflé l’or au javelot. —photo fournie

Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute’s track and field team finished the sea- son on a high note after the EOSSAA championships. “Pleased with the results overall,” said Ken McLeod, one of the co-coaches for VCI’s track and field team this year. “Especially considering that we still draw a large number of participants for a school our size.” This season, VCI had four athletes entered at the Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (EOSSAA) champion- ships held in Kingston during the last half of May. Top results for VCI saw Logan Hallahan finish seventh in the midget boys 1500-metre long-distance run, putting him one place short of qualifying for the Eastern Regionals which took place also in Kingston, during the last week of May. The top six athletes in all EOSSAA events go on to compete at the Eastern Regionals. Natalia LaRosa finished in the mid-pack of the midget girls high jump, also almost making the Eastern Regional qualifier mark. Coach McLeod indicated this year’s EOSSAA results plus VCI’s performance earlier in the season at the Prescott-Russell regional championships bodes well for next season. “We’re looking to build on our successes this season,” he said, “and bring it forward to next year.”
