PART V — OBJECT LESSONS T here is considerable variety in ob ject lessons. They usually consist of materials of various kinds includ ing chemicals. Some of them have a magic aspect. Not many libraries have tried to catalog these. The BIOLA library has a small collection, and we have tried to work them into the same pattern as the other audio-visual ma terials. We believe that the easiest way to handle these materials is to shelve them in serial order in boxes or con tainers, which in some cases can be heavy envelopes. A separate section can be set aside for the larger ones as we do for books and other media. The catalog card should carry a main entry, which again will usually be in the form of a title, or in some cases a name which must be improvised. A manufactured item usually is named by the distributor. Here is a typical sample card: Obj Sin cords broken (Object lesson) 2 Visual-Action International. 9 pcs. (4 lessons) colored. (Sermons in action, Pack D) Manual. It is important to see that the instruc tions are included in the carton con taining the material and that they contain the same title and location number as the box. When returned, the set should be carefully inspected to see that everything is there and in order. In the case of chemical sets, the time element must be watched on the ones that deteriorate. It may be well to go through the demonstration with the borrower to make sure that it works. It is important in all of these audio visual cataloging procedures to indi cate the subject or subjects illustrated. A descriptive note as to the kinds of materials involved and the major point of the demonstration will help users considerably. This should appear on the catalog card as well as on the list. EDITORS NOTE: This concludes our special series of articles on this subject.
