Youth volunteers: an undeniable source of inspiration Every year countless young people undertake volunteer work, wheth- er as part of a school project or from personal interest. Early altru- istic and formative experiences like these have a great influence on their future adult lives. Let us all remind ourselves of the benefits of youth volunteerism. ing that will follow them throughout their lives. As well as giving them a first work experience, vol- unteering will also allow them to devel- op autonomy while they broaden their horizons. Volunteering helps young people grow into informed, concerned adults and gives them the oppor- tunity to become good citizens. It gives young people the chance to address the issues they care about and believe in. It’s not surprising that volunteering is something they will be proud of for a whole lifetime.

SUMMER AND WEEKENDS Volunteer opportunities abound during the summer or on weekends, when young people aren’t busy at school. Many different areas are open to teens who want to satisfy a need to contribute to the greater good. These might include staffing an organization’s information desk, coaching a sports team, getting involved in a fundraising activity, or working at a kiosk during a charity event.
