Pat Bracelin and Kathleen Adams held a fund-raising sale Saturday in aid of the“Proj- ect TNR: Helping Homeless Cat” initiative in Hawkesbury. Helping homeless cats be photographed and put up for immedi- ate adoption in hopes of removing some of these cats off the streets and back into loving and responsible homes. The group stresses that pet abandonment is a serious act of animal cruelty and abuse and should be reported immediately to your local SPCA branch and/or local by-law officers. Abandoned pets are the ones who always end up paying the ultimate price because most will die of starvation, dehydration or hypothermia as they are domesticated animals that have been house-trained and taught to rely and depend on humans to feed and provide shelter for them. These cats may also suffer from an injury or they may become the victim of a violent death caused by predators, people or vehicles. A “true feral” cat has very little to no human contact and does not live among people in the community because it is a wild cat. The trap, neuter and release program is being organized by volunteers Pat Bracelin and Kathleen Adams with the goal of con- trolling the town’s feral cat population. Details can be obtained at project.tnr@ hotmail.com or http://projecttnr.weebly. com. The TNR program focuses on trap- ping, sterilizing and vaccinating aban- doned, homeless, stray and semi-feral cats. In the absence of a temporary holding fa- cility in the Hawkesbury area, cats have to be returned to the streets but each cat will be ear-tipped for identification purposes. The animalswill also be treated for parasites such as fleas, ticks and worms at the time of sterilization if needed. Adoptable cats will
