Briefing Frontwave Credit Union Member Newsletter | Fourth Quarter 2020 Frontwave Fights for Our Members and Our Communities
2020 has been a trying year. We’ve felt it here at Frontwave, too, with temporary branch closures and staffing challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic. But when we reflect back as an organization, there’s at least one bright spot: our ability to deliver on our commitment to fighting for our Members and the communities we serve. A great example of this is our involvement in the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Launched in April, the PPP was a forgivable loan program designed to help small businesses weather the coronavirus pandemic. By the time the program ended in August, Frontwave was able to help over 169 small local businesses from Oceanside to Temecula to Barstow get the funds they needed to pay their employees and stay afloat. Our involvement in this program wasn’t just about making loans. We felt privileged to be able to help these beloved businesses and organizations that are part of the very fabric of our communities, that we love and that we know others love, too. It was our honor to do our part to help. And as a Member-owned not-for-profit, we couldn’t have done it without you, our valued Members.
Mission San Luis Rey de Francia Founded in 1798, Mission San Luis Rey de Francia is a National Historic Landmark and the largest of California’s 21 iconic missions. “At Mission San Luis Rey, part of our Franciscan values are caring about our relationships and caring about our staff. As such, after we sent our staff home due to the COVID-19 virus, we were committed to paying our 38 employees for as long as possible, with very little income coming in. We initially reached out to a ‘big’ bank for a PPP loan, with no success. When the second round of funds were becoming available we decided to reach out to a local credit union, Frontwave Credit Union. We received confirmation that our loan was accepted within 24 hours. We are so blessed to have received the funds to enable us to continue to pay our employees for at least the next eight weeks.” - Gwyn Grimes, Executive Director Oceanside, CA Take a look at the impact you helped make possible for two great local organizations!
Barstow Strong Employment Agency (BSEA) By connecting labor groups and facilities/warehouses in and around Barstow, BSEA creates win-win outcomes for the city, the local economy and all those whom call the area home. Barstow, CA
“The COVID-19 pandemic caused many businesses to shut down, including BSEA. It has been tough to pay employees, pay the rent for the office, as well as other key details to keep operations running. The PPP loan received [from] Frontwave has really been a blessing. We’ve been able to make payroll, catch up on bills owed, and even discuss possibilities of expansion in the future. Thank you for all you have done to help us help the community of Barstow.” - David Cocker, CEO

legal obligation to take reasonable steps to keep our employees – and our Members – safe. We have a number of options available for those who are not able or willing to comply with the health orders via our online and mobile platforms. We even extend curbside service to those Members who can’t, for medical reasons, wear a mask. I care deeply for the health and wellbeing of our Dream Makers — and our Members. We are committed to ensuring that we provide a safe environment as we work together to help you make your financial dreams come true. If you do not share that commitment, Frontwave Credit Union may not be the place for you. Our 2021 Annual Meeting of the Membership and election of volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee will take place on March 31, 2021. These volunteer bodies consist of Frontwave Members, just like you, who volunteer to serve this great organization. They are elected by the Membership — YOU! As a financial cooperative, every active Member of the cooperative has an opportunity to participate in the process and, through that process, help shape the future of your credit union. I strongly encourage all active Members to avail themselves of this opportunity – this responsibility — to participate and VOTE in the upcoming election. We have a number of strong candidates running for positions on the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Committee, and we’ll be sharing more information about them over the coming months. You’ll get a chance to read about their qualifications and why they choose to serve. And,
when the polls open, you will have the opportunity to choose who you think will do the best job representing you and guiding your credit union towards a bright future in service to our Membership. I urge you to participate in this important process. Just as voting in our upcoming Presidential election is your responsibility as a U.S. citizen, voting in the annual election is your responsibility as a Frontwave Member. One of the core strategies supported by the Frontwave Board of Directors is our commitment to helping our Members attain and maintain financial fitness. To fulfill upon this commitment, we offer of a series of online financial workshops and seminars. Through these sessions, you can learn more about managing credit, buying a home, avoiding card fraud and planning your estate — all from the comfort of your home. Completely free, as a benefit of your Membership! Trust me, you’ll learn some great stuff! Now’s also a good time to do a mini financial checkup. Got extra funds in your savings account? Consider investing it in your future by opening a Money Market or IRA. Want 2021 to be the year you pay off your credit card, start saving for your child’s college tuition, or buy that car you’ve been dreaming of? Check out the handy financial calculators we have on our website to make a detailed plan. You can also stop by a branch or call our Member Solution Center at 800.736.4500 any time you need assistance or advice. As always, we are here to serve you and help you make your financial dreams come true! It’s what we do.
Bill Birnie, President/CEO Notes from the CE0
If you’d have told me back in March that we’d still be talking about coronavirus come fall, I’m not sure I would have believed you. That said, I do believe there is light at the end of this tunnel. Throughout this pandemic, we have witnessed our employees adapt to new ways of working, our Members adapt to new ways of banking, and our communities adapt to new ways of living. Together, we will get through this! In that spirit, I implore your continued support in following public health recommendations when you visit our branches by wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. To be clear: at Frontwave, wearing a mask isn’t a political statement or an issue of individual rights. It’s about having respect for others to help protect their health. We’ve had a few Members get upset about our mask requirement and take out their frustrations on our dedicated branch employees with insults and hurtful abuse. Frankly, that’s not OK, and it will not be tolerated. As an employer, we have a moral and Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting and election of officers for the Board of Directors (Board) and SupervisoryCommittee (Committee) of Frontwave Credit Union will be held March 31, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at Frontwave’s Corporate office:

Frontwave was on hand to support community members’ financial wellness with information and referrals.
