Shotgun Slug Barrel & Choke Tube Styles From a fully rifled barrel on a custom slug gun, to a smoothbore barrel right off the shelf, deer hunters have a variety of equipment options. It’s critical that you shoot a slug that’s optimized for your barrel and/or choke tube. See page 30 for the full line-up of Winchester slugs along with detailed ballistics information.
FULLY RIFLED BARREL A fully rifled barrel works best with today’s sabot-type slugs as they impart the most spin to stabilize the load.
RIFLED CHOKE TUBE A rifled tube extension to a smoothbore offers at least some spin and works best with a rifled slug.
SMOOTHBORE BARREL For smoothbore barrels, choose a bore-diameter projectile for best overall performance.
