The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reporting that 2016marked the fourth consecutive year where inattentive drivers were behind the highest number of lives lost on OPP- patrolled roads, over the other main causal factors in road fatalities, known as the “Big Four”. In total, 65 people died in OPP-investigated collisions last year, in which an inattentive driver was either a contributing factor or the primary cause of the death. In comparison to the other Big Four categories, 2016 ended with 55 speed-related, 53 seatbelt-related and 45 alcohol-related deaths. As officers get set to conduct their annual province-wide Distracted Driving Campaign, the OPP is looking to Ontarians to help with the educational component of the campaign - a role that remains critical to helping keep Ontario roads safe. —photo Maxime Myre La distraction, cause numéro 1 des décès sur la route selon la PPO

PPO en 2016, 55 accidents mortels étaient liés à la vitesse, 53 aux ceintures de sécurité et 45 en lien avec l’alcool. À l’exception de 2012, les conducteurs inattentifs ont fauché plus de vies sur les routes patrouillées par la PPO que la vitesse et l’alcool au volant. Un conducteur distrait ou inattentif fait face à une contravention d’au moins 400 $ qui peut aller jusqu’à 1000 $, si le contrevenant conteste le billet, en plus des trois points d’inaptitude sur le dossier du conducteur.

Wanted for assault OPP are asking residents in Eastern Ontario to be on the lookout for Cory John Scholl. Scholl, 36, of Arnprior, is wanted on a provincial arrest warrant for four charges of assault plus charges of overcoming resistance by choking and for breach of probation. Police believe that Scholl is aware of the arrest warrant pending for him and is trying to avoid arrest. He was last seen March 6 and may still be in Arnprior or in the Ottawa area. He is five-foot-nine, muscular athletic build, and has very short brown hair, hazel- coloured eyes, and numerous tattoos on both arms. Anyone seeing Scholl or knowing his whereabouts should avoid confronting him.
