PIA Opens Nominations For Environmental Award Printing Industries of America (PIA) has opened nominations for theWilliam D. Schaeffer Environmen- tal Award.The deadline for submissions is January 31. The Schaeffer Award recipient is honored during Printing Industries of America’s Spring Administrative Meetings on April 29. Last year, the honor went to Calvin Frost of Chan- neled Resources Group. The award is given to an individual, not a company, who has made significant contributions to the print- ing industry from an environmental perspective. It in- cludes those involved in any type or printing operations, suppliers or trade associations associated with the printing, publishing and packaging industry. Managing For Improvement Award In other news, PIA is accepting nominations for the 2017 Managing for Improvement Award, which hon- ors outstanding managers in the printing industry who have demonstrated the ability to create real and lasting improvement for their companies. The 2017 recipient will be honored at the 2017 Continuous Improvement Conference, April 2–5, in Pittsburgh,

Pennsylvania. Nominations are open to any individual working for a printing and graphic communications company in the United States or Canada.The nomina- tion deadline is February 10. Candidates must hold a clear record of leading people, teams, and/or projects to higher levels of performance. Continuous Improvement Conference In other news, Printing Industries of America (PIA) has added new content to the 2017 Continuous Im- provement Conference, slated for April 2-5 in Pitts- burgh, Pennsylvania. The annual event focuses on helping industry companies achieve operational ex- cellence by using the concepts of Lean Manufactur- ing and other management and quality systems. Along with the usual tracks of the Continuous Im- provement Conference, Leadership and Culture, Process and Tools—Advanced, and Process and Tools—Fundamental, organizer s have added a fourth track: Growing and Developing People. The new addition will boast sessions such as Best Prac- tices in Employee Engagement, New Approaches to Employee Evaluations and Coaching, and The Roots of Employee Motivation.
