“At a time where all of us were experiencing the addi- tional challenges because of the pandemic, these win- ners prove that we’re not only part of an incredibly re- silient industry, but one that continues to innovate with companies that drive creativity and efficient, consistent and sustainable manufacturing processes,” said Grant Blewett, Chief Commercial Director, Miraclon. “The high conversion rates from other printing processes to flexo, focus on fixed color palette printing, and ef- forts to maximize on-press productivity and efficiency that also contribute to sustainability that we have seen in so many of the entries, all demonstrate how much the flexo industry is set to become the print process of choice for packaging.” Out of the top 13 companies, seven winners are based in Latin America, three in Europe, two in North America, and one in the Asia Pacific region. Highest Honors Winners: Bosisio SA, Celomat SA & Mondelez SA, Argenti- na (Joint Entry) — Gold Bosisio SA and Celomat worked together to prove flexo a cost-effective and high-quality alternative to gravure for Mondelez, meeting their need for shorter turnaround times and lower costs. York City to Cleveland. She worked on several HBJ pub- lications, eventually becoming the Editor of Paperboard Packaging and the Executive Editor of Official Board Markets in 1991. At SuperCorrExpo 2004, she was approached by the late Michael Brunton and his son Dan, Managing Di- rector of Brunton Business Publications, along with the late Ted and Tom Vilardi, founder and owners of NV Business Publishers, to join their companies and launch CORRUGATED Today. Despite the gloomy eco- nomic prospects at the time, both the Vilardis and the Bruntons saw the value and efficacy of a glossy tech- nical magazine to be published six times per year for the North American corrugated packaging industry; the logical person to spearhead this venture would be Jackie. She took the reins of the publication with the publication of the Jan/Feb 2005 launch issue. Success From The Start Having earned a following in the industry from her previous 13-year tenure with a competitor, Jackie made CORRUGATED Today a success from the get-go. And she and the magazine only got better. In addition to her responsibilities on CORRUGATED Today, she also wrote for Folding Carton Industry and Board Con- verting News.Over the years, Jackie has received many awards for her writing fromThe Society of Profession- al Journalists and the American Society of Business Publication Editors. Sadly, Mike Brunton passed away this year,Ted Vilar- di in 2013 and Tom Vilardi in 2018.Their vision creat- ed a successful magazine, brilliantly edited and well respected by the industry. It seems appropriate that CORRUGATEDToday retire along with Jackie. “We cannot thank Jackie enough for her tireless work over the last 16 years,” said Daniel Brunton.“Her knowledge of the industry and focused research en- sured readers had a well-produced magazine from cov- er to cover. She is well respected and will be missed by advertisers and readers alike now that she has chosen to retire and enjoy more family life.We wish Jackie all the very best.” “Jackie often told me she was in awe ofTed,Mike and Tom,” recounted Jeneane Vilardi. “She was concerned she might not live up to their expectations, but she had nothing to worry about! Her industry knowledge and reporting skills made her the ultimate asset!” “It is a really tough decision, as CORRUGATEDToday was one of my first business ideas I pitched toTed,Tom and Mike,”added Brunton.“They were not 100 percent convinced it would work, but time proved otherwise. We have had a fantastic run, but the way in which we

Two Sides Leads Anti-Greenwash Campaign As economic pressures around the globe continue to mount, banks, telecom providers, utility companies and even governmental organizations are increasingly focused on switching their customers from paper to digital services to cut costs. All too often, their custom- er communications attempt to mask these cost-saving efforts, justifying the switch with unsubstantiated en- vironmental marketing appeals such as “Go Green – Go Paperless” and “Choose e-billing and save a tree.” “Not only do these greenwashing claims breach es- tablished environmental marketing standards like the U.S. Federal Trade Commission Green Guides and the ISO 14021 standard, they also are extremely damaging to an industry that has a solid and continually improv- ing environmental record,” saidTwo Sides NorthAmer- ica President Kathi Rowzie. “Far from ‘saving trees,’ strong market demand for sustainably sourced paper encourages responsible forest management and sup- ports the long-term health of forest resources. Many of the organizations we engage are surprised to learn that over the last 30 years, U.S. forests have expanded by some 18 million acres, while net forest area in Can- ada has remained the same at around 857 million acres during the same period.” Two Sides has engaged nearly 1,700 organizations around the globe — in North and South America, Eu- rope, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand — urg- ing them to remove misleading environmental claims about paper from their customer communications. To date, more than 810 of them have complied, 149 of them in the United States and Canada, bringing the North American success rate to 68 percent.
