beyond the academic environment, 47.4% engaging in cultural activities and 46.5% learning foreign languages. Approximately 160 million adolescents and young people aged 10 to 24 live in Latin America and the Caribbean, representing 25% of the region’s population. Thus, one in four people is an adolescent or young adult in this region. Regarding the employment situation, it has improved for the age groups between 15 and 29 years, being three times higher than the population between 30 and 64 years. Illiteracy among young people is lower than in previous generations. Primary education is at high levels, 93% of men and women and 56% of young people aged between 20 and 24 years have completed secondary education, but only 9% of young people have completed university, with women having a slightly higher completion rate. Thus, there is progress in the present compared to past generations. Regarding leisure time, various aspects such as physical activity were analyzed. A lack of commitment to physical activities was noted, 22.3% (25.4% for women and 19.1% for men), with an insufficiency in relation to sports of 67.7% (73.6% for women and 61.5% for men) and regular physical exercise being done within the 43.7% margin, similar between women (43.3%) and men (44.1%). In the context of the most discussed current risk, the excessive use of technology to obtain a quick source of dopamine and exposure to continuous information without perpetual assurance regarding the validity of that resource, data was collected. In Spain, surprisingly, a study (de Sola et al, 2025) that analyzed mobile phone use from 2014 to 2025 found that the prevalence of harmful phone use decreased slightly from 5.1% in 2014 to 4.8% in 2018 to 3.2 in 2024. Users stated that the difficulty of controlling phone use decreased from 20.5% in 2014 to 18.8% in 2024. Although the decline in prevalence is present, the severity of addiction has increased in the last decade, in Spain and worldwide.
