District Court in Baltimore County

District 8 - Baltimore County

• District Court in Baltimore County was approved by then Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera, Court of Appeals of Maryland, to provide a new Adult Drug Court on June 8, 2021. This problem-solving court program is designed to address the drug treatment needs of offenders with lengthy criminal histories evidencing historical drug dependency and drug abuse. The program will widen the access to justice for repeat offenders by equipping them with the necessary tools to lead productive drug-free and crime-free lives. • District Court in Baltimore County Failure to Pay Rent/ CARES Act program collaborated with the Baltimore County Office of Law and the Baltimore County Office of Housing and Community Development to assist local residents with obtaining legal and financial resources needed to help tenants avoid evictions and landlords meet their maintenance and repair obligations for their rental properties. This project began in August 2020 with CARES Act funding. • District Court in Baltimore County relocated its post- judgment unit to the second floor of the Towson courthouse to process civil matters more efficiently by co-locating staff. The manual citations unit, which includes camera, parking, toll, MTA, DNR citations, was moved from the Towson courthouse to the Catonsville courthouse, where litigants appear for these matters. Moving the post-

judgment unit to the area where the civil division is located promoted efficient workflow between units that regularly work together to process civil matters.
