Before summer gets away from us, let’s rejoice in some of the fun local events that happen through September. Check out the three below! Boise Summer Escapes SOAK UP THE SUMMER AT THESE 3 LOCAL EVENTS
BOISE FARMERS MARKET Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., April–October Shoreline Drive, Boise
SCHICK-OSTOLASA FARMSTEAD TOURS Saturdays from 12:30–4:30 p.m., May–September Schick-Ostolasa Farmstead, Boise Experience a crucial piece of Boise history during a tour of the Schick-Ostolasa Farmstead. Featuring the homestead built by one of the earliest settlers of the valley, Phillip L. Schick, the tour takes you through seven historic farm buildings and over the two acres that Schick developed. This is a great experience for adults and kids alike, and it offers a peek inside an often overlooked piece of Boise history.
GREAT GARDEN ESCAPE Select Thursdays, 6–9 p.m., June–September Idaho Botanical Garden
When you’re looking for fresh, delicious, locally grown produce, the Boise Farmers Market is your place to go. With a new location close to downtown and more space for vendors to sell their wares (plus parking spots), the Boise Farmers Market is a great spot for local food. You can skip the grocery store this weekend and have a lot more fun with your shopping with options like fresh veggies, ready-made bread, pastries, tamales, and locally raised meat and eggs.
Music, a beautiful venue, a blanket, and a picnic basket full of tasty treats — what more could you ask for? Great Garden Escape at the Idaho Botanical Gardens is a great way to spend a summer evening. On Aug. 22, Portland band Y La Bamba brings their passionate celebration of Mexican-American heritage with tunes in English and Spanish. On Thursday, Aug. 29, the gardens will get a little folksy with the Hermit Music Festival’s Hoedown at the Garden, and, if you enjoy jazz, head there Thursday, Sept. 5, for Boise Straight Ahead. Whichever nights you choose, sit back and enjoy the music.
