M A Y 1 Committing the Case to God “If, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God” (1 Pet. 2: 20). W e make a mistake in trying always to clear ourselves; we should be wiser to go straight on, humbly doing the next thing, and leaving God to vindicate us. “ He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.” There may come hours in our lives when we shall be misunderstood, slandered, falsely accused. At such times it is very difficult not to act on the policy of the men around us in the world. They at once appeal to law and force and public opinion. But the believer takes his case into a higher court, and lays it be fore his God.— F . B. M eyer . M A Y 2 Constant Praise "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice” (Phil. 4:4). The calendar of the sinner has only a few days in the year marked as festival days; but every day of the Christian’s calendar is marked by the hand of God as a day of rejoicing.— S elected . God of my life, through all my days My grateful powers shall sound Thy praise; My song shall wake with opening light,1 And cheer the dark and silent night. The cheerful tribute will I give Long as a deathless soul shall live; A work so sweet, a theme so high, Demands and crowns eternity. — A . H. M a n n . M AY 3 Life’s Purpose “ To be conformed to the image of his Son” (Rom. 8:29).

Conformity to Christ is life’s supreme and ultimate good . . . Conformity to Christ is also the one thing which will make us useful to Him here. Should we not covet it more— seek it more— and by the grace of His Spirit attain it more? In its fullness, it will be the final inheri tance of all those who love God, who are called according to His purpose. In ever growing measure, it can be ours, here and now.— The Christian. M A Y 4 His Fragrance "Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smell ing savour” (Eph. 5:2). Does the fragrance of Christ cling to us? It will if we are much in His com pany. Are our garments scented with the savor of Christ? W e should be; and we may be. How ? By yielding ourselves to the Holy Spirit within.—H. A. W oolley . Carry a savor of Christ wherever you go. Even in smallest things be spreading the glad sound. — R obert M urray M c C h e y n e . "Without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is” (Heb. 11:6). T o me it is a significant thing that the one man in the Old Testament about whom we are told that he pleased God is the man of whom we are also told that by faith he walked with God. “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death ; . . . before his translation and he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” By faith day by day Enoch walked with God, and God became so real to him as his daily, hourly Companion, that into M A Y 5 Walk o f Faith
