&/#3&'r#3*&'4 WOMAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT On May 20, at about 9:30 a.m., a Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer responded to a disturbance at a long-term care facility in Clarence- Rockland. His investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between an employee and an elderly woman, resident of the facility. A 63-year-old Rockland resident, Suze Marie Colin, was charged with assault causing bodily harm. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal, on June 19. – Francis Racine STILL NO PROMISE OF FLOOD FUNDING The provincial government has yet to confirm that it will allocate any funds to the municipality of Clarence-Rockland, following this year’s flooding. “We still haven’t received any answers yet,” said mayor Guy Desjardins during a May 28 information session. “It’s going to cost us more this year than in 2017. I think we will receive funds. We just have to be patient.” The mayor stressed that in 2017, the provincial government had taken six months to announce its funding. – Francis Racine PHARMACY ROBBERS ARRESTED Two Ottawa men were arrested following an investigation by officers from the Russell detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), stemming from a theft at a Rockland pharmacy on April 22. Thirty-five-year-old Shane Thomas Edmund Albert-Pichette and 39-year-old Dawson Gutoskie, are each facing one charge of theft under $5000 and pos- session of property obtained by crime under $5000. Both are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on June 19. – Francis Racine LA PPO RAPPELLE D’ÊTRE VIGILANT Les cyclistes ont profité du beau temps pour reprendre la route. Le détachement de Russell de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (PPO) rappelle donc aux cyclistes qu’ils doivent rester vigilants et suivre les règlements. « Les cyclistes sont tenus de partager la route avec d’autres véhicules, a fait valoir la constable Melissa Bouchard. » Les conducteurs doivent laisser au moins un mètre de distance lorsqu’ils dépassent un cycliste. Selon le code de la route, une infraction à ce chapitre pourrait coûter 110 $. – Francis Racine PARKS AND TRAILS RE-OPEN FOR SEASON Nearly all of the South Nation Conser- vation’s (SNC) parks, trails, docks and boat launches have re-opened. SNC’s network of 14 day-use Conservation Areas across its 4,384 square-kilometer jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario are acces- sible free of charge, and provide public access to the Conservation Authority’s 12,000 acres of community land.

Le maire de Clarence-Rockland, Guy Desjardins, est revenu les mains vides d’une réunion avec le gouvernement provincial à Ottawa. C’est ce qu’il a expliqué lors d’une séance d’information le 27 mai dernier, qui avait lieu à la Salle de spectacles Optimiste. La soirée avait pour but de faire le point concernant le plan de rétablissement pour les sinistrés. « Écoutez, je pense que c’était plutôt le gouvernement provincial qui voulait des réponses de nous autres, a déclaré M. Desjardins. On n’a pas eu de résultats. » Le maire a également souligné que lors de la réunion du 24 mai dernier, des représentants de l’Ontario Power Generation (OPG) lui aurait expliqué que l’an dernier, 15 milliards de mètres cubes d’eau ont traversé la région, comparativement à 28 milliards cette année. « C’est une quantité d’eau qui est en hausse, a ajouté le maire. Les réservoirs peuvent seulement prendre une certaine quantité d’eau. Après un certain temps, ils doivent en laisser passer. » Or, le maire a annoncé aux sinistrés qu’une demande a été faite aux fonction- naires provinciaux pour qu’ils entreprennent une étude concernant la gestion des réser- voirs, afin de déterminer pourquoi tant d’eau coule le long de la rivière des Outaouais. jø/PVTOFTPNNFTQBTMFTTFVMTÆBWPJS demandé qu’une étude soit faite, a expliqué M. Hydro devrait être là, c’est sa responsabilité. » Le maire a aussi déclaré qu’il a été approché par deux députés provinciaux des environs, qui auraient offert leur aide à la municipalité. « La députée de Carleton, Goldie Ghamari, et le député Jim McDonell, de Stormont, Dundas et Glengarry, veulent tous deux nous aider, a commenté M. Des- jardins, comme on n’avait personne qui nous représentait à cette réunion. » La députée Amanda Simard n’était pas à la réunion. Selon sa page Facebook, celle-ci participait à un Royal Garden Party au palais de Buckingham, en Angleterre, le 21 mai dernier. À la suite d’une courte présentation de la directrice générale de la municipalité, Helen Collier, certains sinistrés ont pris la parole afin de faire connaitre leur méconten- tement vis-à-vis la situation, qui dure depuis maintenant plus de 30 jours. « On veut des

A two-vehicle crash, which occurred at 9:40 a.m. on May 23, caused the closure of a portion of Du Golf Street. The accident took place on the corner of Du Golf Street and Champlain Street. “Four people from the scene were transported to various hospitals,” said Clarence-Rockland Fire Chief Brian Wilson. “When we arrived, we did have to extricate one passenger.” According to Wilson, none of the occupants sustained life threatening injuries.
