Last year they participated in many events including three projects with the Russell Fair, Heritage Day, Marsha Morton Memorial Golf Tournament, assistance to RAPA, a Christmas parade float, Living Locally, a dance supporting the Military Family Fund, E-waste Day collec- tion with Knights of Columbus, St. Patrick’s Day trivia which raised $5000 for St. Mary’s Anglican Church bell tower, Brain Matters, Speechcraft to local students, Break for Dad,

and That 70s Dance which raised scholar- ship funds. One of the projects they take most pride in is Kaiden’s Care Kits, which made the fi-

nals in the Aviva Community Challenge for Helen Meitzinger’s kits which have been adopted by hospitals across Canada to help parents of newborns with Cystic Fibrosis.

The Russell Kin Club reports that it sup- ported 17 projects in its first full year of operation and looks forward to many more in 2013, including a dance February 9 and a trivia night February 2. Kin Club president Doug Anthony says the club, which was chartered October 1, 2011 is well on its way to being established

Quinten McKinley won the Limbo contest at the Russell Kin Club’s ‘50s and ‘60s Dance, Rock-Kin the Night Away, held at Russell High School On Saturday, February 9. McKinley also won the hula hoop contest. Kins and guests danced to the early rock sounds of Eddie and the Stingrays to raise funds for Kin Club projects. There were spot dances, a costume contest, free popcorn, a bubble bum blowing contest, and drive-home volunteers.
