573 Gospel, not to hide it .from them that are lost. How we do rejoice that we are permitted to be light bearers for our Lord Jesus Christ. Works Will Not Save . It was our privilege to talk to a group of young men who were strong Catho lics and who trusted in their good works. We asked them to let us consider in a mathematical way what would be satis factory to a Holy God. Suppose we made two hundred visits to the sick and spoke some word of comfort to them and then made two hundred visits to the poor and took them something in the line of food or clothing. Almost immediately they saw the point and said, “ But we don’t know or can’t tell just how many works would satisfy a just and holy God.” It was easy then to show them that this theory wouldn’t work. We said, “ is there not some way whereby we can know what will satisfy a just and holy God?” Then lifting up our Bible “Here we have a revelation from God and He tells us what satisfies Him,” reading Scripture to prove the point— , “ He was delivered for our offenses and raised again for our justi fication, therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” “ Now,” we said, “ that tells us God is satisfied with the work of Jesus on the cross and all who will believe and accept, He will justify.” We believe in good works, not in our own, but in those which He wrought upon the cross for us.” Well, they were convinced of the truth. When we asked them if they were ready to make a decision and accept, the spokes man said, “ Our parents brought us up in our religion and we cannot change religions.” We talked a little longer showing them that Jesus was not so much a religion as He was a new life, and before we left, asked the men to kneel down. Eight men knelt with us while we offered prayer for them. The following week we took a couple of Mexican young men converts to give their testimony, after which they had no more doubt as to our belief. They said the next time we came they would decide. This shows what a hold religion has on the Romanist, but if we have patience and persevere and pray, God will bring them in due time. Your Fruit Shall Remain Another incident proves the truth of the promise that our fruit shall remain. Last summer a man in one of the Camps accepted Christ and after a while left.
THE K I N G ’ S B US I NE S S the way we were able to reach the bunch of men whose pictures you see in this issue. Last September we were led to go into a shop that at one time had been given up as too hard to do anything with. Time after time the Gospel had been taken to it by song and message but to no avail. But God has His own plans, and feeling that we were being led of Him, we set out to visit this fac tory, with our little organ, and some song books. Arriving at the place, we opened the organ, took out the song books and started singing some of the old familiar songs. Very few of the men came around, and those that did, came to, jeer and laugh. When we started to speak they very plainly told us they wanted nothing that we had. Nevertheless we felt we had something they needed, so we stayed and told them the story of Jesus. Week after week we have been going there. Last week we had about sixty men in the crowd that came to listen. The picture will show you some of the men we reach. I managed to get this picture one noon at their short noon hour. Many of these dear fellows never get to any church, or service of any kind, and hear the Gos pel only as we go to them, and we find that many of them are eagerly waiting to hear the GOOD NEWS. Thank God that we have the opportunity to carry this Gospel to them, “ For it is the POWER of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.” M. H. REYNOLDS. Light Bearers For Christ “ But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them that believe not, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” The above text is only too true in re gard to the Romanists, for the god of this world hath blinded their minds, for if the god of this world can cause the people to be religious without Jesus Christ, he is content and the very fact of their being religious causes them to be blind in their minds, for the idea of thousands is that as long as they are re ligious, they are all right; “ for,” say they, “ we all have the same goal,” but this is not what the Word of God says. Therefore it behooves us who have the SPANISH WORK
