TH O U G H T S FOR

UNSAVED PEOPLE

uneducated, unregenerated man. An educated, yet unsaved man is a positive danger to society because he has sharp ened his tools for the use of the devil, and because he blocks the way of more people in coming to Jesus Christ than does the man who is down and out. From the Scripture we have. quoted, it appears that some men have much to unlearn before they can be saved. They have set their own thoughts up against the thoughts of God, and therefore will not honestly put to the test the simple plan of salvation as laid down in God’s Word. They have failed to see that, after all, cultivated intellect leaves one on this side of the grave and cannot bring any satisfying knowledge of things eternal. “ The carnal mind is en mity to God.” It refuses to grasp spirit ual truth, because it will not acknowl edge the need of the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, which is essential to un derstanding spiritual things. It wants to argue everything, and it is in no way qualified to argue, not being able to discern spiritual things. Friend— are you one of that class who think their gigantic brains stand in the way of their accepting the Word of God? Does the Gospel of Jesus Christ sound altogether too simple for your highly cultured intellect? Does it sound fool ish? If so, then you may see your pic ture- in 1 Cor. 2:14 (quoted above). And let me say in all kindness, you are flattering and deceiving yourself. Jesus Christ ran up against this class in His day. It is recorded that he “ re joiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, Father, that thou hast hidden some things from these wise and prudent folks and revealed them unto babe» ”

STUFFED HEADS AND STARVED HEARTS WHAT THE The preaching of the cross is WORD OF to them that are perishing fool- GOD SAYS ishness, but unto us which are saved; it is the power of God. . . . It is written. I will show the nothingness of the wisdom of the wise and will bring to naught the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God shown the foolishness of man’s wisdom? For after that, in the wisdom of God. the world by its wisdom forgot God. it pleased God by the (apparent) foolishness of preaching to save them that be lieve. The (so-called) foolishness of God is stronger than men. For. ye see your calling brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many noble, not many mighty men are called. But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. And base things of the world and things which are despised, hath God chosen. (1 Cor. 1:18-29.) Faith stands not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God (the teach ings, warnings and promises of the Bible) for they are absurdity unto him, neither can he know them for they are spiritually discerned. (1 Cor. 2:5, 14.) Do not deceive yourself, if any man among you seemeth to he wise in this world’s wisdom, let him become a (so-called) fool that he may become wise, for the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise that they are vain. (1 Cor. 3:18-20.) If any man is willing to do His will, he shall know of the teachings, whether it be of God or whether it originates with man. (Jno. 7:17;) Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid which is Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 3:11) Ye must he born again (Jno. 3:6). Gigantic Brains The writer would not-,' for a minute, underestimate the value of higher edu cation as a qualification for the most efficient service for God. But—we have all the Scriptures, as well as the testi mony of thousands of competent wit nesses, to prove that education and cul ture cannot take the place of regenera tion. In other words it is possible for a man to have a STUFFED HEAD and a STARVED HEART. An educated, yet unregenerated man, may be just as miserable at heart as an
