New records for Russell High track

Hurdler MatthewManion clears the bar with ease during his championship efforts at the Prescott-Russell regionals. Now he gets to test his skill at the EOSSAA.

L’équipe de volleyball féminine 18U, les Pumas de l’Est ontarien, a remporté la médaille d’or au Championnat provincial de l’Ontario qui se tenait à Waterloo du 24 au 26 avril dernier. Elles ont eu le dernier mot en finale en battant les Elites de Barrie, au compte de 15 à 12. On reconnaît, ci-dessus, Gabrielle Lemire (Casselman), Mika Beaulieu (Vars), ClaudiaMcDermott (Orléans), Olivia Dupuis (Casselman), Cloé Lacasse (Bourget), Joël Lavigne, Mickeala Sigouin (Calrence Creek), Rylee Leger (Alexandria), Mélissa Pétrin (Rockland), Niève Séguin (Casselman), Jean-François Rainville et Martin Rainville. Also claiming first-place finishes and at least one school record result was Matthew Manion who took first in junior boys 100-metre hurdles and the long jump. Ma- nion’s winning long jump leap also landed him with a Russell High record distance. Manion is also qualified for EOSSAA in the 300-metre hurdles with a second-place finish at the Prescott-Russell regionals. Rounding out the Russell High track team at EOSSAA will be Caitlyn Dignard, who placed third in midget girls high jump and long jump at the PR finals, Matthew Kreft, fourth in midget boys 200-metre and 400-metre and third in the javelin, and Alexis Ricard with fourth in senior boys long jump.

Russell High School will have a small team at this year’s eastern regional track-and- field championships. But what the group lacks in numbers, it more than makes up for in skills and talent as seen during the recent Prescott-Russell regionals. Coach Gord Zubyck reported all five athletes representing Russell High at the Prescott-Russell championships May 12 at the Terry Fox Field in Ottawa returned with top-four finishings in their events, qualifying all of them for the EasternOntario Secondary School Athletics Associations (EOSSAA) in Brockville later this month. Beginning on June 2nd, the Village of Casselman will extend its recycling program to residents of multi-dwelling buildings such as apartments and condominiums within the municipality. Biodegradable plastic bags will be available instead of blue boxes, as they take less place in an apartment or condominium. Residents will be able to purchase biodegradable plastic bags at the Town Hall for $2 each, sold in lots of 10 bags. Recycling pick up is every Tuesday. Place the recycling at the designated area anytime after 6:00 p.m. the evening before the pick-up or before 7:00 a.m. on the Tuesday morning.

La municipalité de Casselman annonce la mise en place d'un projet pilote qui, dès le 2 juin, oŠrira le service de recyclage aux résidents des logements multi résidentiels tels que les immeubles d’appartements et les condominiums de la municipalité. Les sacs de plastique biodégradables seront disponibles au lieu d'une boîte bleue car ils sont plus faciles à ranger dans un logement ou un condominium. Les résidents pourront acheter des sacs pour 2$ l'unité à l'Hôtel de ville par lot de 10 sacs. La collecte du recyclage est lemardi. Placez vos sacs de recyclage à l’endroit désigné après 18 h la veille de la collecte, ou avant 7 h le mardi matin.
