On January 4, the EasternOntarioWild AAA Hockey Association and the EasternOnta- rio AA Cobras Hockey Association were hosting AAA and AA teams from Finland. The games were held in the Casselman J.R. Brisson Complex. According to Mario Paquette, organizer and president of the EasternOntario Cobras, it is a unique experience that the participants will never forget. “For the parents and the kids, they have the opportunity tomake new acquaintances and possibly even friends.” Representing one of Finland’s biggest sports organization, Harry Hannelius is a volunteer who is in charge of the exchange. “Where do we go to play hockey? There’s only one true answer, right? Canada is the only place to come and learnmore about hockey.” This is not the first year that the AAAWild host such an event. In fact, it’s been about six years that the exchanges with Finland take place, according to Denis Dumais, president of the minor hockey board of HEO. “Wemeet once a year,” added Dumais. “I consider Harry a very good friend although we only met five years ago. We work very well, I really like having him come and I wish they were here more. Usually we have two games, but this year it could not be ar- ranged.” Unfortunately, as the event was held on the same day as the fire on Main Street, a

power outage caused the Cobras’ game to be abruptly cancelled after two to threemin- utes only into the game. “It’s unfortunate; however, a lot of kids were still able to live the experience by watching the first game.” Actually, the EasternOntario teams might be called upon to live the experience them- selves as talks of a possible trip to Sweden or Finland are starting to emerge.

The Eastern Ontario AA Cobras are a competitive teamof players fromall around Prescott-Russell, fromEmbrun, Hawkesbury, Rockland and Casselman, just to name a few. As for the AAAWild, the team is formed from a greater region, including the Cobra zone in addition to communities such as Russell Village, Cornwall and Alexandria.
