An Outstanding Book For Present Day Needs! THE FISHERMAN IV PHILOSOPHER By DR. JOHN M AC INNIS Dean of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles

An Irish peasant was once asked by his priest, “ Patrick, what authority have you for reading the Scriptures ?” “A search war rant, your riverence.” “A search warrant, Patrick?!’ repeated the priest. “Where is it to be found? I should like to see it.” Patrick reached for his Bible and turned up John 5 :39. The priest felt that Patrick had rather the best o f the argument, so retired from the debate for that time at least. W e have ample authority for searching our Bibles, and are promised a rich re ward if we do so. Yet, alas! how few avail themselves o f the privilege. A story is told of J. G. Whittier, the poet, that at one time he wished to have an objectionable building removed from a certain locality, and, as the quickest and surest way to accomplish the purpose, he gave a man a dollar a day, on condition that he •Should do nothing from morning till night but talk with various interested persons about it. In less than three months the build ing was gone. Agitating the subject, keeping it to the fore, was what was needed. I f as soul-winners Christians were more persistent, what might not be accomplished 1 If you want a nail to go through, you must keep hammering. A rich gentleman s wife died, and not long afterwards their only child, a little boy whom they both dearly loved, followed his mother to the grave. The gentleman never recovered from the shock o f this double bereavement. After his death search was made for a will, but none could be found. At the sale o f the house and furniture, an old domestic o f the household was present for the purpose of buying a portrait of the little boy which was hanging on one of the walls. The servant had dearly loved the child when alive, and was now'eager to Secure the picture. It was sold to her where it hung, and on its being taken down the will was■ found fastened to the back o f it, and when read it was discovered that the person who, at the sale of his effects, should purchase the picture o f his much-loved son should have all his property. This is what God has said to us; if we honor and love His Son, he will make us inheritors of his kingdom. F ebruary 29, 1928 Text: Luke 16:10 M arch 1, 1928 T ext: Matt. 19:29

M arch 2, 1928 T ext: Phil. 4:6-7

A little girl who, with her aunt, a nervous, care-pinched, burdened woman, heard a sermon on Phil. 4:6, 7 ( “In nothing be anxious,” etc.), said, “Auntie, what does that passage really mean?” “Whatever it means,” replied the aunt, "it can’t mean just that." Few o f us come out so bluntly, but the thought lies in our minds. We discount God’s Word and make large allow ance, until it means nothing. Give thanks for all things ? Why not, if all things work together for good to them that love God? (Rom. 8 :28).
