Childcare workers and others crowded into the conference roomat the River Rock Inn in Rockland, over the April 22 weekend, for a two-day workshop and discussion gathering on early childhood education. “This inspiring and engaging conference allowed us to guide our pedagogical efforts, better understand the benefits of reflective practice, and build on our values through a broader learning community,” stated Domi- nique-Ann Boisvert, child care quality assu- rance coordinator for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR). “Most of all, we wanted to feel inspiration rather than

fessional credentials, including publications in the field. The two-day conference featured both French and English commentary, with bilin- gual interpretation stations and facilitators to assist both presenters and participants. During several of the workshop sessions, the focus was on the importance of planning environments with thoughtful, varied, and inspiring materials, to better support the exploration and interests of children on a day-to-day basis. The importance of play as a learning method was also a focus during talks.

The 120 participants in the conference, which was sponsored through the UCPR, represented childcare centres throughout the region and also the LicensedHome Child Care Agency of Prescott-Russell (LHCCA- PR).The conference theme was “Growing a Culture of Reflective Practice – Meeting Up with Children’s Lively Minds”, with special guest speakers Lorrie Baird and Anne-Marie Couglin, both experts in early childhood education with years of experience and pro-
