The best summary of the Bible in story form

T h i s is t h e month of candles—red ones, green ones, pink ones, and here and there a tall white one. They brightly shine from the Christmas tree, the mantle or the table, making our homes festive with their bright rays of light. And as they bum so brightly, are they not bringing us a message from our heavenly Father? The tall, white candle with its clear, bright light always tells me of Him, the sinless One, who said, “ I am the light of the world” (John. 8: 12). He who was bom in Bethlehem’s manger came to be the Light that shineth in this “ world of darkness.” How He longed to shine in the hearts of men, to take away the darkness of sin! The smaller candles—the pink ones, the red ones and the green all seem to speak of you boys and girls. The unlighted candles are like those who do not know the Lord Jesus. Each heart seems to have a candle in it, needing to be lighted by the Lord Jesus Himself. “Thou wilt light my candle, the Lord my God will en lighten my darkness.” When the Lord Jesus is received as Saviour He lights the candle of the heart; His light shines in—darkness flees. What would we do without light? It brings comfort to our homes and lives. How good it is to see a light, shining forth from our windows when we come home after a day’s work! All that light means to us in a natural way, the Lord Jesus means to us in a spiritual way. Has He lighted the candle of your heart? Then in Matt. 5:14, 16, we read: *'Ye are the light of the world,” and “ Let your light so shine before men.” . . . When we have received Jesus as our Saviour and He has “ lighted our candle,” we become “ lights” for Him. As the Christmas candles light up the dark places of our homes, so He would have us shine in the dark places of this earth, in the places where He is not known, “ at home, at school, at play.” Then someone seeing our light will want to know Him, the “ true Light, that lighteth every man who cometh into the world.”
