Musahamaat Fikriyya – Constructs of Creativity

mès saddle is handcrafted by a single artisan, using techniques passed down through six generations. The recently unveiled Selle Rouge represents the latest evo- lution of this expertise. Developed through close collab- oration between artisans, saddle experts and champion riders including Olympic medallist Jérôme Guéry, it in- corporates innovations designed to enhance harmony between horse and rider, while maintaining the aes- thetic refinement associated with the house, reflecting Hermès’ longstanding belief that technical excellence and beauty should be inseparable. That philosophy extends far beyond the riding arena. Across the Hermès universe, artisans continue to trans- late equestrian codes into objects that speak to modern lifestyles. The disciplined geometry of saddlery informs the construction of handbags. Harness straps inspire closures and hardware. The supple strength required of riding paraphernalia guides material choices. In a nod to the equestrian world, the Picotin bucket bag references a horse’s feedbag containing oats, while the lock on the Verrou bag echoes stable door bolts. Even the house’s logo, based on Alfred de Dreux’s drawing of a horse-drawn car- riage and stableman, Duc Attelé, Groom à l’Attente , serves as a reminder of the universe from which Hermès emerged. The horse also gallops through the maison’s watchmak- ing collections. Designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, the Arceau collection is instantly recognisable by its asym- metrical stirrup-shaped lugs – a subtle tribute to equestri- an equipment. This year, Hermès reinforces that connec- tion with two remarkable new creations. The Arceau Sa- marcande transforms the horse into the very architecture

of the watch: beneath a Saint-Louis crystal dial, the silhouette of a horse’s head is openworked to reveal a new skeletonised minute repeater movement, creating a poetic dialogue between mechanics and imagination. The micro-rotor itself is decorated with the house’s historic logo, linking contemporary haute horlogerie to Hermès’ origins. Equally captivating is the six-piece limited-edi- tion Arceau Cavalier en Formes. Inspired by an equestrian lithograph from the Émile Hermès Collection – the founder’s grandson’s private col- lection of horse-influenced artworks, books and rare objects housed in private rooms at the mai- son’s Parisian flagship situated at 24 rue du Fau- bourg Saint-Honoré – and reinterpreted through the graphic language of artist Gianpaolo Pagni, the watch combines engraving, miniature paint- ing and hand-painting. At its centre stands an engraved gold horse, while geometric forms sug- gest the hidden presence of a rider. In an age when many luxury brands rely on her- itage as a marketing tool, Hermès stands out be- cause its origins continue to shape its products in tangible ways. Whether in a saddle, a silk scarf, a handbag or a timepiece, the spirit of the horse endures. It is a legacy built not on nostalgia, but on a timeless understanding that true luxury begins with craftsmanship, function and an in- timate knowledge of movement.
