Infrastructure funding

Member of Parliament Pierre Lemieux was joined bymayors and representatives of municipalities from across Glengarry- Prescott-Russell at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex in Hawkesbury, on July 28, as he announced funding for 12 projects in seven municipalities. MP Lemieux, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister for the Federal Eco- nomic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), announced the funding that is offered through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program. The total value of these community projects is $1.17 million, and the federal government is contributing $475,000. This announcement is one of many for projects approved through the program that will improve and preserve community spaces across southernOntario, with the aim of giving back to Canadians and creating a lasting legacy as Canada prepares to cele- brate the150 th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. The program is expected to boost econo- mic activity through infrastructure invest- ments, build community-based partnerships and modernize existing community facili- ties. The contributions are contingent on the execution of contribution agreements with recipients. Projects have been selected based on pro- gram criteria including the extent to which funding was leveraged from other sources, construction-readiness, and linkages to Canada 150. The Canada 150 Community Infras- tructure Program is one of several infras- tructure-related initiatives that the federal government has undertaken to generate well-being and prosperity in communities across Canada. It builds on FedDev Ontario’s delivery of the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund and the Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program in Ontario, which represented a federal investment of more than $225million and supportedmore than 1180 projects.
