Sovereignty to be Acknowledged Finally, and most Important, a colony was to exemplify the loyalty to the Emperor, t h a t the people of the homeland manifested. We are to show' forth our loyalty to our Lord Jesus Christ. In Colossians 3:23) 24 we read: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” This word Lord (kurios) is a techni cal term which archaeology has shown us was used only of deified emperors. (Not every emperor was deified.) When Paul and the other apostles declared that Jesus of Nazareth was the Lord (the k u r i o s t h e Lord Christ,, every body in the Roman Empire kneyv what was meant: that this One was no mere man, but was worthy of the worship of God. Thus we as a colony of heaven, a'ro to visualize for others what loyalty to Christ is. Do we do that? Is the- goal of our lives to bring glory to the One whom we receive as our God and our. Saviour? Do .our lives show forth the truth that some day .our Lord will reign over this earth, that though He is a rejected King Today, we look for His coming again, when he shall subdue all things unto •Himself? This is She goal of the church. This ig the hope of the" Chris tian. Yes, “we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall . . . sub due all things unto himself.” We are a colony of heaven. May God grant that we shall so live that others will see,| what heaven is like: through our conversation, our clothing, our food, our family life, our loyalty to our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us with utter devotion serve Him whom to serve is joy indeed, who is the K i n g of kings, the Lord of lords, and the Prince of. the kings of the earth. False Suppositions 1. Supposing Christ absent, , when present (Mk. 6:49). 2. Supposing Christ present, when absent (Lk. 2:44). 3. Supposing Christ dead, w h e n alive (John 20:15). 4. Supposing n a t u r a l phenomena better guidance than God’s Word (Acts 27:13). 5 . Supposing material gain to be godliness (1 Tim. 6:5). 6 . Supposing the death of Christ a trivial thing (Heb. 10:29). 7. Supposing t r o u b l e when God would bring blessing (Acts 16:27). —Harold A. Johanson, B. Th. ’36.
