Greetings Strathpine Aged Care Community, Message from Karen As we step into June, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past six month – they’ve gone by so quickly! I truly love being part of the Strathpine Aged Care, and I’m grateful for how welcoming everyone has been.

Of course, there have been a few ups and downs along the way, but we’ve also experienced some exciting wins, including the recruitment of a new Lifestyle Coordinator and our Clinical Nurse recently to fill our vacancies. We have celebrated many events and posted some wonderful memories onto Facebook. Our facility remains full and vibrant, and we’ve recently weathered a cyclone together, showing our resilience and strength. Thank you for your continued support and positivity. I look forward to more wonderful moments ahead. Happy Reading!

As the days grew cooler and the leaves turned to gold, the Strathpine Aged Care community embraced the beauty of Autumn 2025 with heartfelt celebrations, joyful moments, and opportunities to connect with one another. Here’s a look back at the highlights from March, April and May. Community Happenings Autumn

March was a month brimming with warmth and vibrant energy. Residents came together for birthday celebrations, shared stories, and created new traditions. Our Spa & Bubbles afternoon was a soothing highlight for many of our ladies, complete with relaxing treatments and sparkling refreshments. We also celebrated Shrove Tuesday with a pancake-making morning that brought out big smiles (and plenty of maple syrup). Themed events added a sense of fun and adventure, from a glitter-filled Sparkle Party to the grand celebration of St. Patrick’s Day . Residents enjoyed a themed Party Bus, Irish games like Potato Bowls, and traditional music at the Blarney Stone Café. March also saw the exciting launch of our History Club and Book Club , sparking new interests and rich conversations. Crafting sessions for Harmony Day and scarf-making gave everyone a chance to get creative. And, of course, the Easter season was full of colour and fun — with a raffle, guessing games, Easter cookies, and joyful gatherings bringing people together.

Community Happenings Autumn In April we welcomed beautiful handmade letters and bookmarks from our pen pals at Humpybong Primary School Plus, and were delighted to send some thoughtful replies and photos in return. The newly launched Stitch, Chat, Knit and Natter group brought together residents with a passion for needlework and conversation. We also opened a Scrabble Corner , offering a quiet, inviting nook to play a game or simply enjoy a book from our growing library . April also included a heartfelt ANZAC Day commemoration, led by Daniel Grono from the Bray Park–Strathpine RSL. Outings to Sandgate Foreshore, musical performances , cupcake decorating , origami and cardio drumming rounded out a month rich with activity.

Community Happenings Autumn In May, we enjoyed a scenic bus outing where we basked in the sun and visited our friends at Burpengary Manor Aged Care. It was a lovely morning of friendship, conversation, and a thoughtful exchange of succulents from their gardening group . Back at home, excitement was in the air with the grand opening of the Candy Lane Lolly Shop — a fun-filled event complete with quality-control lolly tasting. And in true Strathpine fashion, the idea of a resident-led Mother’s Day Fashion Show blossomed into a full-scale event. With outfits from Glenda’s Mobile Shopping and beyond, our resident models stole the spotlight on the catwalk while guests enjoyed gift bags, laughter and applause.

Autumn Highlights In March residents enjoyed a calming Spa & Bubbles afternoon, made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday , and celebrated birthdays with Kathleen and Vincent. We held a fun-filled Sparkle Party , baked Italian bread , played Hoy , and planned new resident-led History and Book Clubs. St Patrick’s Day was a standout with our themed party bus tour, traditional Irish games and food, and a performance from the MFK Academy of Irish Dance. We also baked Easter cookies , marked Harmony Day with crafts, and celebrated Greek Independence Day with food and dance. March 2025

We honoured ANZAC Day with a heartfelt service, homemade Anzac biscuits, and reflections led by Bray Park-Strathpine RSL. A month of celebration, creativity, and connection. April 2025

Autumn Highlights In May Residents enjoyed a scenic bus trip to Redcliffe and a garden club visit at Burpengary Manor, where they were gifted succulents and shared stories over tea. We launched our very own Candy Lane Lolly Shop with a ribbon cutting and plenty of sweet laughs. Mother’s Day was celebrated in true style — with a resident-inspired fashion parade , a garden party , goodie bags , a concert by Ellie, and a special visit from Nikki Boyd. We marked International Nurses Day with a BBQ and cupcake fun, welcomed more cuddles from Rosie the therapy dog , enjoyed peppermint- scented playdough and sunshine in the Petrie wing, and kept our i ntergenerational friendships strong through letters from Humpybong Primary. What do you enjoy most about working here?

Well, I’ve just started but already it’s been wonderful meeting the beautiful team and residents What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I like taking my dog to the beach or park for a walk and scenic drives. I love the whole of western landscape of Brisbane; we are so blessed. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Japan – It has beautiful landscape, diversity, the food, the culture and scenery. One day I would love to go.

There is a little island in Japan called Okunoshima, which is well known for its crowd of cute rabbits for you to cuddle with.

Harpreet Kaur – Clinical Nurse "I’m passionate about supporting older adults, and those on the palliative care pathway. I look forward to contributing to the care of residents and working collaboratively with the team at Strathpine Aged Care."

A Life Well Sewn I was born in Cloyna, near Murgon, Queensland, and raised on a farm I truly loved. Life was simple and hardworking. We had cattle, horses, pigs, and of course, the cows we’d milk—thirty of them—every morning before the sun was even up. It was just what we did, part of the rhythm of life. In my early years, I worked at the local post office during the day. But at night, I’d sit down with needle and thread, sewing wedding dresses and adding delicate edging to dollies. I’ve always loved knitting and doing fancy work. I was a dressmaker through and through—thanks to my mum, who taught me everything I know. Back in those days, I also loved dancing at the local halls. I’ve never been a big book reader, but enjoy flicking through magazines.

When I was younger one of my most memorable holidays was flying around Australia, at Easter. But no matter where I’ve been, it’s the memories of my family that makes me smile, like the time my brothers gave Hector the pig some beer, he couldn't walk afterward! I still remember that. My life has been stitched together with love, laughter, and a whole lot of hard work— and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Quality Corner Upcoming Changes to the Aged Care Standards; What you need to know – and what it means for you. The government is introducing new Aged Care Quality Standards as part of a refreshed Aged Care Act . These changes are all about making sure that aged care services continue to provide safe , high-quality and respectful care - with your dignity , choices and well-being front and centre.

What’s changing? The updated Quality Standards go into more detail about what good care looks like. They’re designed to make sure you stay at the heart of your care, with stronger guidance for things like clinical care, food and nutrition, and making sure your personal preferences are always respected. Here are the seven updated standards : 1. The person focuses on your rights, dignity, choices and individuality across all the standards 2. The organisation how providers support and deliver care 3. Care and services your care is focussed on who you are and what’s important to you 4. The environment you feel safe, comfortable & supported where you live 5. Clinical care you get the clinical care that is right for you 6. Food and nutrition prioritising enjoyable, tasty and nourishing meals 7. The residential community fostering connection, inclusion and community life The new Aged Care Act brings with it a clear Statement of Rights , setting out the rights everyone has when accessing aged care services. These rights are designed to make sure your care is respectful, fair & centred around you. The Statement of Rights include the right to: independence, autonomy, empowerment and freedom of choice equitable access quality and safe funded aged care services respect for privacy and information person-centred communication & ability to raise issues without reprisal advocates, significant persons and social connections. We’ll continue to share more updates as the changes get closer, and of course, we’re here to answer any questions or talk through what this means for you.
