Prerequisites Level 2 Psychology (recommended).
Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 3 and University Entrance, with 3 of the 22 credits externally assessed by examination, and the remaining 19 credits internally assessed. The following Achievement Standards will be assessed: • AS 91872 (6 credits – internal) Analyse the interaction between psychological approaches. • AS 91873 (3 credits – internal) Analyse the significance of a key piece of research and its impact on society. • AS 91874 (6 credits – internal) Conduct independent psychological research with consultation. • AS 91875 (4 credits – internal) Analyse how theories are applied within a field of psychological practice. • AS 91876 OPTIONAL (3 credits – external) Analyse a significant issue in psychological practice.
Description This course focuses on the psychology of men’s health as its core theme. Boys will learn how to apply psychological concepts and theories to understand modern health issues such as obesity, addiction, stress, resilience and depression. While Level 2 Psychology is recommended preparation for Level 3 Psychology, it is not mandatory. Students may take the course with the recognition that extra background work may be required from time to time. Level 3 Psychology is a University Entrance- approved subject.
