A Message from the Director of Community Services The resilience of our Charlotte County community continues to be tested by the devastating impacts of recent hurricanes. Yet, our collective strength, determination, and community spirit remain unwavering. Since Hurricane Ian in 2022, followed by Hurricanes Idalia, Helene, and Milton, the theme of “recovery” has been ever-present. Our Community Services team has been diligently working to ensure our facilities are safe, while also collaborating with insurance carriers and federal partners to secure the resources needed for repairs and replacements. Recovery is a long journey, and we’re walking it together. Our goal is to restore access to the facilities, programs, and experiences that make Charlotte County such a special place. We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding as we move forward.
Investing in a Stronger Future In 2020, Charlotte County voters approved the extension of the 1% Local Sales Tax, emphasizing a shared vision of enhancing quality of life. Since then, our staff has been hard at work bringing these important projects to life. We are currently finalizing the design for the replacement of the Port Charlotte Beach Recreation Center and Pool, with construction set to begin soon and an anticipated completion in Fall 2026. Numerous bicycle paths, trails, and sidewalks have already been completed, with more on the way. Designs are also underway for G.C. Herring and William R. Gaines Jr. Veterans Memorial Parks, with construction timelines to be finalized soon. We appreciate your continued support as these projects move forward. The end result will be lasting improvements that benefit all residents and visitors.
