Our parks and open spaces are an integral part of our community identity.

There are five divisions within Community Services dedicated to providing these services: Administration, Extension Service, Libraries and History, Parks and Natural Resources, and Recreation. Extension Service Charlotte County Extension Service is a partnership between the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Charlotte County government, to provide scientific knowledge and expertise to the public. Operating as part of the University’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Extension provides information and conducts educational programs on issues such as sustainable agriculture, fisheries and marine issues, competitiveness in world markets, horticulture, water quality and quantity, natural resource conservation, food safety, child and family development, and youth development. Libraries and History The Libraries and History Division provides materials, assistance, and computers to meet the information and leisure needs of the community; meeting spaces for community groups and businesses; historic preservation and exhibits; programs and events to support literacy, lifelong learning, and educating the community about the history of Charlotte County by operating four libraries and specialized services. Parks and Natural Resources Parks and Natural Resources Division enhances quality of life by providing safe, well maintained, accessible park and athletic facilities for all users including athletic fields, beaches, parks and conservation lands, playgrounds, fishing piers, and boat ramps; managing and safeguarding natural ecosystems for public access for passive recreation and environmental education; enhancing community life by preserving clean air and water, conservation of wildlife and natural resources, and management of Habitat Conservation Plans. Recreation The Recreation Division operates six Recreation Centers and four Aquatic Facilities; programs various activities and events for participants of all ages; provides summer and break camp for
