HEALTH & FITNESS COMMITTEE Another season is behind us with many accomplishments and changes. The Fitness Center Wall of Honor plaque has been made more visible by Signarama. This plaque identifies the individuals that made the new Fitness Center possible. Six laser engraved bricks, for the Pathway to Fitness, were sold with a potential of three more sales. The Health & Wellness Fair was a success with more attendees than last season. LifeStream Blood Mobile had 27 donors, 22 of which were first time donors. The membership has changed so your new committee will be: C HAVALLA L OPEZ -B ASSHAM , C HERI B OUDIN , G ABE F URTADO , M ARY E ASTWOOD , M ARYELLEN M UIR , S HERI P ETERSON , and T ERRY H UFF . All are new members this season except for Gabe. The meetings will continue to be the first Tuesday of November, January, February, and March at 10:30AM but will be held in the Owners Lounge as we’ve given up the ES West Room for the quilters. The new committee met on March 22 to determine their goals for next season. They will have another Health & Wellness Fair, offer monthly Health & Wellness speakers, and continue sales of the laser engraved bricks for the Pathway to Fitness. Stay tuned for additional goals, new ideas, and changes. After six years on the committee I leave you in good hands. I wish to thank everyone that I worked with over the years. P AM W ALKER Chair
FACILITIES PLANNING COMMITTEE It has been a busy season for our committee but when you return in the fall you will see the updates that we have been working on. The El Saguaro pool deck and pickleball court conversion will be taking place this summer. I would like to thank Michelle Moore and Michael Murray for their contributions to the FPC. We thank them for sharing their expertise and guidance for seeing that our resort remains a premier RV resort. We welcome C AROLYN C ANDLER to our committee who will be a wonderful asset in assisting us with our upcoming projects. Our next meeting is scheduled for November 1 in the East room at La Palma. All interested owners are welcome to attend and if you would like to contribute please let us know. As you leave at the end of our season drive safely. We look forward to meeting again in the fall. E. tirucallii It is the well known Pencil Euphorbia and is very dangerous. Euphorbia is one of the most readily available plants, even in supermarkets. Latex from this plant has been the cause of death, blindness and severe illness. The latex produces excruciating pain and severe inflammation if it gets into a cut on the skin or on to the eyeball. It produces a more intense irritation of the eyeball than of the skin which may result in ulcerations on the eyeball. On record is the death of an African adult male resulting from hemorrhaged gastro-enteritis after swallowing the latex as a cure for sterility. Deaths from poisoning after taking medicine made from the plant have also been reported. The juice has been used as a mosquito repellent and in India as an insecticide.
