Pour souligner l’occasion, La Seigneurie, centre de généalogie et d’histoire, invite les personnes intéressées par l’histoire et la généalogie à se présenter à son centre de ressources de la bibliothèque publique de Hawkesbury, 550, rue Higginson, le samedi 11 février prochain. Des bénévoles seront sur les lieux afin d’accueillir les visiteurs et leur faire découvrir les documents de recherche généalogique qui sont mis à la disposition de ses membres. L’activité débutera à 9 h et se terminera à 16 h.

I Harrington mayor quits

HARRINGTON
Halfway through his first mandate as mayor of Harrington Township, Keith
Robson has stepped down.
Citing personal reasons, Robson, who defeated incumbent Ellen Lakoff in the
November, 2009 election, submitted his resignation last week. It was formally accepted
Monday. “Change is not always a bad thing,” allowed Councillor Claude La Roque.
He related that he has not yet decided whether he will seek the mayor’s post, adding
that council will in the near future set a date for the election to find a successor to Robson.

“We have a very unified council,” said La Roque.
At the same time, the township has hired planner Guillaume Marcoux to succeed
Robert Lacroix as chief administrator. Lacroix has accepted a job in Rosemère.
Marcoux had previously worked in St-André and Brownsburg-Chatham.

Recreational activities on the Rivière des Outaouais (Ottawa River) near Carillon generating station are dangerous. In winter, a run-of-river generating station can create variations in currents underneath the ice, which can weaken the ice cover. The ice that forms in the immediate surroundings of the facilities and structures is thinner or of uneven thickness. That’s why it’s dangerous to go ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and skating near a hydropower facility. Please obey the signs and respect the protective barriers put up to ensure your safety.
