Ten Minutes to Save a Life: Emergency Medicine in Dentistry — Back-to-Basics

Life-threatening emergencies can occur anytime, anywhere and to anyone. They are more likely to occur within the dental office environment due to the increased level of stress so often present. This session includes a discussion of preparation involving the office and staff, the office emergency kit and the recognition and management of specific emergency situations, including seizures, respiratory distress and drug-related emergencies (allergy and overdose). This course is designed for all members of the dental office staff. These situations can happen outside of the dental environment, as well as in the office. Everyone should be prepared! Learning Objectives: • List and discuss the four steps in preparing the dental office to manage medical emergencies

• List the eight drugs in the bare-bones emergency drug kit • Discuss the basic emergency management protocol
