Multidisciplinary Approach to Congenitally Missing Teeth
Ester Canton, BSc, DMD, Cert. Pros., FRCD (C)
This lecture will provide insights on managing patients who are congenitally missing teeth. When patients are first diagnosed with missing teeth by their dentists or pedodontists, timing becomes critical in order to ensure a predictable functional and esthetic result. Communication is key between dentist and specialists at varies stages of treatment phases. Multidisciplinary treatment planning is important in order to inform the patient about different choices of treatment modalities including dental materials and long term prognosis. How can orthodontics and periodontics provide the patient with both an ideal but realistic result. Definitive solutions including fixed options with resin -retained fixed dental prostheses and implant- supported crowns will be presented. Choices of material ( PFM, PFZ), designs of resin- retained fixed prostheses ( one- winged vs two-winged), and implant- supported crowns being mindful of occlusion will be discussed. Learning Objectives: • Multidisciplinary approach to congenitally missing teeth.
• Long term predictable provisional solutions. • Choice of treatment modality and materials.
