ASM22 Final Program

Predictable, Simplified, Staged Dental Implant Therapy for the General Practitioner

Jim Grisdale, DDS, Dip. Perio, Dip. Prosth

With implant dentistry becoming mainstream in the dental practice, it is imperative for the general dentist to rationalize dental implants as a treatment option and to understand the science of implant surgery and prosthetics. Several factors have combined to impact the increasing use of implants including an aging population and the psychological aspects of tooth loss, poor results with conventional removable prostheses, predictable long-term results of implant supported prostheses and maintenance of alveolar bone. Judicious selections of which implant cases to treat will provide the clinician with the ability to expand the use of implants in their practice. Contemporary concepts and techniques will be examined in the context of incorporating predictable implant therapy into a general practice. Learning Objectives • Learn to evaluate patients for implant therapy • To understand osseointegration and bone quality • To understand surgical placement techniques and principles
