ASM22 Final Program

Nobody Caries

Brian Novy, DDS

Sometimes it seems as though our patients don’t grasp the basic concept of home care. Other times, our most dedicated patients develop rampant decay, and we feel helpless because we can’t figure out how to slow the caries process. The mouth is a remarkable environment filled with amazing organisms that make it a wonderful place to work, but perhaps a hostile environment to our restorations. Learning Objectives: • Explain the mixed bacteria ecological approach to caries causation • Apply evidence-based and novel preventive therapies • Quickly identify high caries risk patients before they develop disease
