Assault, robbery charges laid after two attacked

Theft at lottery kiosque A 21-year-old man was arrested following a theft at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming store in the Hawkesbury Mall. The crime oc- curred in the afternoon of January 21 short- ly before 3 pm. A woman was busy with her lottery tickets and left a $50 bill on the counter unattended. A man, who had pur- chased a lottery ticket just before, ran off with the money. Constable Anne-Christine Gauthier responded to the call. She was as- sisted by officers of the Street Crime Team and patrol officers, Constables Anne Char- bonneau and Luc Lecuyer. The investigation led to the arrest of Daniel Albert Larocque Jr., of Hawkesbury. He was charged with theft. In the week of January 21 to 28, the Hawkesbury O.P.P. detachment responded to 203 occurrences and laid 27 charges. Of- ficers investigated three break and enters, nine thefts and five assaults and laid three impaired driving charges. Commercial break-ins The Street Crime Team (SCT) arrested a man in connection with a break and enter January 14 at Dépanneur Roy on Nelson street West, where someone had broken in and stolen money from the cash register, food and cigarettes. Paul Gorry, 41, of McGill Street, Hawkesbury, has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of cocaine, failing to comply with an under- taking and being unlawfully in a dwelling. Drug trafficking charge While on patrol, the SCT arrested a man for alleged drug trafficking. Martin Ler- oux, 40, of Kipling Street, Hawkesbury was charged with trafficking cocaine. No light leads to impaired charge January 22, shortly before 2 a.m., Con- stables John Léger and Marc Lauzon were performing a RIDE initiative when they stopped a 2001 Ford Escape on John Street, Hawkesbury for having no light on the back licence plate. Michel Lecompte, 56, of Sandy Hill Road in Champlain, was charged with driving while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, and having an improper plate light. His vehicle was seized for seven days and his driver’s licence immediately suspended for 90 days. Too close for comfort January 27, at approximately 4 a.m., Con- stable Eddy Saardi was on patrol when he observed a car following another vehicle closely on John Street, Hawkesbury. When the vehicles was stopped, the officer found an open can of beer in the car. Maxime Lalonde, 21, of West Street, Hawkesbury, was charged with driving while his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit and driving with an open con- tainer of liquor. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence immediately suspended for 90 days.
