The Love of Family Feature Article For those of you who know Carlos and Adrienne, you know that family ranks at the top of their list of priorities followed by their unquenchable thirst for travel and adventure, big or small. When they are not in the clinic, you will find them walking in the shallow waves of Clearwater Beach with baby Greyson, going on walks around their neighborhood, or doing some kind of adventurous-something-or-other with their family and friends. To give you a little history, Carlos and Adrienne met when they were young – Adrienne 17 and Carlos 21. From the beginning, they found ways, on their shoe-string college budget, to travel to the Bahamas, Mexico, Colombia, and around the US. After college, their adventures led them to the apple orchards of Canada and into the vineyards of Italy. They always traveled with family, to see family, or just made family everywhere they went! Directions Cut watermelon vertically into 1 inch thick slices. Use a small star cookie cutter to cut out star shapes from the flesh of each watermelon round. Thread7-10blueberries into thecenter of each bamboo skewer, leaving enough space at the end for someone to be able to comfortably hold it, and a space at the top for the watermelon star. Place the watermelon star on top and set the fruit sparklers on a serving tray. Cover and refrigerate until ready to enjoy.

The Children’s Home Network is Tampa’s oldest and continuously run non-profit organization. For the past 126 years, Children’s Home Network has used its Tampa-based residential campus to provide a safe, healing environment to help boys and girls who have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Nearly 25,000 children and families benefit each year through Children’s Home Network programs that focus on healing children while creating opportunities for success. Specifically, the Adolescents in Motherhood (AIM) Program is a residential maternity program for pregnant teens and mothers ages 13-17 who are in foster care. This program enables young mothers and their child to reside together, with the support and supervision of trained caretakers,

so they are not separated within the foster care system. AIM provides a structured home and campus environment, with the support of trained and trauma-sensitive child caregivers, mental health and behavioral specialists, a staff nurse, psychiatrist, parenting classes and support to meet educational needs. The Children’s Home Network makes it a priority to ensure all mothers are prepared for their eventual departure from AIM into an independent adult. At this time, there is an URGENT NEED for disposable diapers and pull-ups. In an effort to aid the precious little ones in this program, Life In Motion will be hosting a drive from July 2-13. We are asking our patient family to help us provide as many diapers and pull-ups as possible. Donations

When they announced that they were expecting their first baby in December of 2016, many gave the advice that life would change with the addition of the new little one – and it did! Now, there is more luggage to pack! At 17 months old, baby Greyson has traveled more than Adrienne had at the age of 18! He has been over-night camping in a tent, seen the coffee fields of Colombia, South America, and walked hand-in-hand with mommy and daddy on Hollywood Blvd in California. He has grown into a huge fan of airplanes – both riding in them and enthusiastically pointing them out when he finds them in the sky! No matter how near or how far, finding adventurous ways to experience other places, cultures, and people is what fills the Riveros’ bucket list. More than anything, though, experiencing the joys of life with their family and friends is what fills their hearts.

Dear LIM family, Recently, I was doing some research on Sciatica and lower back pain treatments and I stumbled on some information that I thought you or someone you know might find valuable. At Life In Motion Physical & Hand Therapy, we specialize in treating Sciatica and Lower Back Pain. Simply put, Sciatica has 3 common causes: 1. Herniated discs 2. Stenosis or Arthritis 3. Pelvic or SI joint problem When you match the right treatment with the right problem, the symptoms should go away...almost immediately (there are exceptions: comorbidities, surgery, chronic injections, and medicines.) Self-Test for Sciatica 1. Sitting on a chair, look down. 2. Straighten one leg, with toes in the air. 3. Repeat for the other side. What it means: If your leg with pain, numbness or tingling does not go up as high as the other leg, you likely have sciatica.
