Cathedral School for Boys Faculty and Staff Handbook 2017-18

If you have any question about the seriousness of an accident, err on the side of caution and do not move the student. If a student has a minor accident (cut or scrape) or illness (upset stomach), send him to the office accompanied by another student. No injured student should ever be left without an adult in charge under any circumstances. Never allow another student to notify the family of a student who is taken ill or has had an accident. All such calls must be placed through the office. When bleeding from an accident or illness occurs, the person providing treatment must wear disposable gloves, which are to be properly disposed of when treatment is completed. When treating a person who is vomiting, wear disposable gloves and make every effort to protect your clothing and the exposed parts of your body from contact with the vomit. Dispose of gloves correctly. The maintenance employee should be contacted as soon as possible, preferably while treatment is underway. He/she will immediately decontaminate the area with a bleach solution. Keep others away from the contaminated area.

Each employee should have a supply of disposable gloves in the employee's work area. The major reserves are kept in the office.

Tuberculosis Screening

California State Law requires all faculty and staff of educational institutions to be screened for control of tuberculosis. All employees and volunteers in public, private and parochial schools for K-12 and child day care facilities are required to have an initial examination within 60 days prior to employment. Employees with negative tests are required to be retested every four years. Employees with positive tests require follow-up care.

Benefit s and Leaves of Absence

CSB provides a comprehensive package of employee benefits to eligible employees. The school complies with the San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance with regard to the provision of health care benefits. Please see the Headmaster for more information about your eligibility for benefits and the terms and conditions of benefits provided. As with our employment policies in general, our employee benefits are reviewed on an ongoing basis and we expect them to change from time to time. Some benefits, such as medical and dental benefits, are defined in legal documents, such as insurance contracts and official plan documents. If there is any conflict between the benefit summaries in this Handbook and any applicable legal document, the language of the legal document will govern.
