read them. “We’ll read them all,” expressed Bélanger. “All of them are wonderful and they’re all different.” Both women then remain silent for some time, before Gagnon clears her throat. “We’ve received all sorts of nominations, fromamother explaining how her daughter is academically gifted, to a father detailing the self esteem problems his daughter is going through. It’s very touching.” In the hopes of getting the region’s young girls receptive to the project, the two women went around high schools, distributing flyers. “That’s when we realized just how many high schools were in the region,” said a laughing Bélanger. “If I had had a project like that, back in the day, that would have been wonderful. On their day of prom, no one knows how to do it or what to do for that matter.” The day of their prom, the chosen girls will all join up at The Loft, a Cornwall salon, where they will be pampered for the whole morning.“We want them to feel like princesses for the day,” explained Gagnon. The two makeup artists are quick to point out that they couldn’t achieved the

project without much needed help from the community and local businesses. “There are no words to describe the sort of support we have received from the community,” confided Bélanger. “After only a couple of days, all of the sponsors we needed were already in it.” “I think this community and the SD&G area is wonderful and the local businesses have been extremely receptive to the project,” added Gagnon. In all, seven main sponsors stepped up to help the project: Hott Stylz, Poppin Makeup,The Loft, Moustache Joes, Blooms, Kelsey Lindsay Photography and Carol Grant Productions. Three secondary sponsors also volunteered to help: Dr.Navaneelan, Cardinal Wholesale Meats and Maryse Gagnon-Ruest - Broker, Royal LePage “It promises to be exciting and life changing,” explained Bélanger. “We’re hoping to do it every year, bigger and better,” comcluded Gagnon. The students and staff at Gladstone Public School enjoyed a special Canada Is! performance by Mike Mitchell, on March 11. They sang along to all of their favourite Canadiana songs. Mitchell is an award-winning singer, songwriter and storyteller. He is on a never-ending mission to stir up some patriotic spirit in the hearts and minds of all Canadians through lively songs and humorous stories of our history, geography and wacky oddities. — supplied photo
