South Glengarry, is among those lambast- ing the Liberals’ financial track record. But at the same time he is among those also calling for government support of projects such as a new waterworks system. “He is speaking out of both sides of his mouth,” states Crack. “You can’t have it both ways.” A former North Glengarry mayor, Crack observes that while many preach austerity, local municipalities are constantly seeking funds for infrastructure improvements. “The debt clock does not consider the whole financial picture,” he reiterates. Crack recalls that the Ontario Liberals did not cre- ate the provincial debt alone. “The Conser- vatives left a deficit of $150 billion. They cre- ated debt; this is not all a Liberal deficit. A lot of this was left behind by previous gov- ernments.” He recalls that the province suffered dur- ing the 2008 recession but the government continued to invest in priority areas, such as health and infrastructure and employment. “We are on target to balance the budget in 2017-2018,” says Crack.
