Le budget final des Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell est prêt à être ap- prouvé le mois prochain et il comprend une augmentation des taxes d’environ 3,5 pour cent. «Cela a été un défi, c’est certain», a dé- claré Valérie Parisien, directrice des finances des Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR), lors d’une entrevue téléphonique après la session spéciale du conseil des CUPR du 14 décembre. Mme Parisien a présenté aux huit maires du conseil ce qui devrait être la version finale du budget 2023 des CUPR pour les opérations et les travaux d’immobilisations. Le budget total est de 179 058 200 $. Ce montant comprend la taxe municipale de 53 575 700 $, soit la partie des revenus des CUPR provenant de l’impôt foncier. Le budget final, s’il n’y a pas de change- ment lorsqu’il sera soumis au conseil des CUPR en janvier pour approbation finale et adoption, comprend une augmentation de 3,53 % de la taxe municipale. The proposed budget calls for $5,183,162 in operations and capital works expenses. Almost half of the township’s expenses for next year will be covered through senior government grants and other funding
sources. That leaves a municipal levy of $2,481,333 that the township must raise through property taxes. This year’s budget includes a 3.5-per-cent tax increase to deal with the municipal levy. The current draft of the budget will come back to council in January for final review and approval if there are no further changes.

Municipal administration has also contac- ted Hydro Hawkesbury to determine if it would be willing to relocate its office and inventory to the new municipal garage site on Spence Street. Hydro Hawkesbury officials will bring the subject up for discussion at a future board meeting. Council voted to accept the recommenda- tion for Option 1 for a new municipal garage next to the Spence Street snow dump site. Administration began the process to acquire a 2.54-acre commercial lot adjacent to the snow dump as part of the municipal garage construction project. During the December 8 session of the new council Bylaw 62-2022 was approved. The bylaw confirms the town will buy the lot on Spence Street owned by the Hawkesbury Community Industrial Strategic Planning Association (HCISPA). The lot is adjacent to the municipal snow dump and will provide the space needed to construction of a new municipal garage and also provide more space for the snow dump. The finance department is now working on a separate budget plan for the municipal garage project, including determining finan- cing options, to present to council as part of the 2023 budget discussions in January.
Hawkesbury’s finance department staff is working out options to finance construction of a new municipal garage. One of the last major financial decisions for council under Mayor Paula Assaly before the October municipal election was approval of a recommenation from administration on the best option for replacing the existing municipal garage at 855 Main Street, which “is obsolete and no longer adequate for public works services.” A report from the consultant firm, LRL &OHJOFFSJOH EFTDSJCFEUIFUXPPQUJPOT available for replacing the existing municipal garage. The Vankleek Hill Cougars dropped three of a possible four points over the weekend in games against the Clarence- Creek Castors and the Almonte Inferno. Cougars tied 5-5 after a double-overtime on Friday night away against Castors. “We let that game go” said head coach Franky Dopelhammer. Cougars took a three- goal lead in the second period, leading 3-0, before Clarence-Creek caught up to 4-4, scoring four power-play goals. Cougars hosted Almonte Inferno at Robert Hartley Sports Complex on Saturday night, losing 4-1. Dopelhammer said the Cougars defeat was due to Cougars not seizing goal scoring opportunities. “We had 46 shots on net” said Dopelham- mer. “I think we hit eight posts and we had three breakaways.” Dopelhammer hopes for more consis- tency from his team going into 2023, as the playoffs are fast approaching. Cougars now have a three week break before restarting on January 6 away against Westport Rideaus.

The company presented the lowest overall of three bids for the project. Lascelles Engineering and Associates Ltd. of Hawkesbury will do all the enginee- ring design work for the project, including stormwater management. Total cost for the contract is $43,525, not including HST. There is also an estimate of $13,500 for contingency needs, including fire protection design and other items. When all the architectural and engineering design plans are ready, township adminis- tration and council can then determine a budget estimate for construction of the new community centre.

East Hawkesbury council and adminis- tration are laying the groundwork for building a new community centre in the Village of St-Eugène. Township council approved recommenda- tions for hiring an architectural firm to design the new facility and also an engineering consultant to work out the details for the foundation and other structural plans for the building and also for its electrical, plumbing, and other services and utilities. Open Plan Architects Inc. will do the archi- tectural design for a one-storey, 372-square- metre building at 1161 Labrosse Street that will be the new community centre. The
