TWO HAWKESBURY BRIDGES TO BE REPLACED

The CNR/Hawkesbury Creek Overhead Bridge and the Highway 34 Overpass on County Road 17 will both be demolished and replaced with new bridges next year. After assessing the condition of both bridges, it was determined to be more cost effective to replace both bridges entirely than to continue to rehabilitate them regularly. The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) has retained Jacobs and Dillon Consulting to complete the design for the replacement of these two bridges. A presentation of the project was given to Hawkesbury municipal council during its regular meeting on Febru- ary 11. The project will include the demolition and replacement of both bridges using an accelerated bridge construction method. The ramps at the County Road 17 and Highway 34 interchange will be reconfigured. The project is still currently in the design stage and will soon enter a 30-day public review period, in which the details of the project will be posted online in order to receive feedback from the people of Hawkesbury and to answer any questions or concerns they may have. “The Ministry of Transportation explained to us that the preliminary work will be done at the end of 2019 and the construction work is planned for 2020,” said Guillaume

Boudrias, Project Manager for the Town of Hawkesbury. “But we don’t have a precise date.” Once construction does begin, County Road 17 will be closed completely, in the vicinity of the bridge, for two to four weeks and Highway 34 will be closed, in the vicinity of the bridge, for two to three weekends. County Road 17 will be detoured along County Road 4 heading east-west through Hawkesbury’s Main Street and heading north- south along Tupper Street. This is estimated to cause a nine-minute delay for commuters.
Highway 34 traffic will be detoured via a temporarily constructed north-south bypass through the interchange. “There are certainly concerns,” said Boudrias. “There will be an increase in traffic during the two- to four- week closure period, but there are measures to mitigate its problems that are being implemented by the Town and the MTO. But, it will certainly create extra circulation.” In terms of the financing for these two bridge replacements, the Town of Hawkes- bury will not be spending any money.
“Municipalities are not involved (in the financ- ing of the project),” explained Boudrias. It’s the MTO, but I don’t know what the source of funding is on MTO’s part.” Both bridges were built in 1955 and have undergone multiple rehabilitations since then, the latest one occurring in 2008. Both bridges were assessed to currently be “in fair condition overall, with localized areas of poor condition” according to the report. Common issues include cracks, cor- rosion, scaling and spalling.

Champlain Township has its 2019 budget approved with a tax hike of more than six per cent. Council approved the final budget during its February 12 afternoon session. The earlier time for the council meeting was to allow for everyone to get home before the arrival of the snow storm which blanketed &BTUFSO0OUBSJPEVSJOHUIFOJHIUMBUFSBOE continued on into the day on February 13. The total budget for the municipality is $6,195,610 and requires a 6.64 per cent tax increase on the municipal levy portion. The original draft budget projected a tax rate of twice as much but council and staff were able to shift spending priorities and other factors during the past several weeks of budget review discussions. Un jugement de la Cour supérieure datant du 1er février rappelle que de décembre 2010 à novembre 2017, M. Saywell était le NBJSFFU/PÌM#BSJMDPOTFJMMFSNVOJDJQBM&O mars 2016, un journal publie un article sur le financement du programme de réhabilitation routière de Grenville, rapporte le jugement. « M. Saywell est interviewé dans le cadre de cet article et ses propos sont rapportés dans celui-ci. Il commente, entre autres, sur MFSFUBSEEF4PVSDFT7ÊP EPOU.#BSJMFTU le dirigeant, à s’acquitter de sommes dues à la municipalité et l’impact sur l’entretien et la réfection du chemin utilisé par les camions desservant l’usine d’embouteillage de Sources Véo », expose le jugement. Il poursuit en notifiant que le 29 novembre .#BSJMFOUSFQSFOEVOSFDPVSTFO diffamation contre M. Saywell et la munici- palité accepte de payer les frais de défense de M. Saywell. Seulement, voilà qu’un an plus tard, ce dernier quitte la mairie et est remplacé par ceux qu’il qualifie à tort ou à raison « d’opposants politiques ». Le juge- ment précise que ceux-ci adoptent alors une résolution pour mettre fin à la protection juridique offerte à M. Saywell, qui « doit maintenant se défendre seul contre l’action en diffamation de 150 000 $ ».

Les Chevaliers de Colomb de L’Orignal fourniront 30 000 $ au service des loisirs du canton grâce à leur collecte de fonds communautaire pour apporter des améliorations au front de mer du parc L’Orignal. &/#3&'r#3*&'4 LES LUTINS DE NOËL DE VALORIS FONT DES HEUREUX Encore une fois cette année, la communauté de Prescott-Russell était au rendez-vous pour appuyer la campagne annuelle des Lutins de Noël de Valoris. Grâce aux dons, des cadeaux ont pu être distribués à 666 enfants et adolescents de la région. Plusieurs initiatives ont permis d’amasser des cadeaux et des fonds, comme le Brunch des anges de l’École secondaire catholique de Plan- tagenet. L’évènement a généré une somme record de 4800 $. Un tournoi de quilles, tenu à Casselman, a aussi profité à la campagne, engendrant des recettes de 1000 $.

Quelques-unes des photos serviront à illustrer un calendrier spécial 2020 sur le thème des arbres et de la forêt. Harry passed away peacefully, at the Hawkesbury General Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 73 years, Bernice Grant; his daughter, Diane (d. John Scholefield); his sons, Robert & Richard (Kelly Doherty), his five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Harry, the youngest of four children was pre- deceased by his two sisters, Alice Moussette & Doris Paradis; his brother Clarence, and his son Kenneth. Harry was a self-made man with an innate business sense. As the head of a successful car dealership he was deeply involved in the Montreal automotive industry. His steadfast nature ensured that he accomplished anything he set his mind to. He excelled in sports well into his senior years and was notably involved in the Montreal NHL Old Timers. Harry was passionate about the great outdoors and enjoyed many adventures flying his own airplanes to remote hunting and fishing camps. A creator in his own right, Harry embraced the challenge of constructing roads, stone walls, and all types of buildings. A dedicated family man above all else, he was never happier than when surrounded by his loved ones. He adored the children in his life and took every opportunity to share his passions with them, whether it be on the ski slopes, the golf course or in the drivers’ seat of a bulldozer. He was an exceptional individual who lived life to the fullest. He was a generous man who shared freely of his time and experience. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. Our familywould like to extendour thanks to Dr. Christian Gagne and the compassionate team of the Emergency and Palliative Care Departments, of the Hawkesbury General Hospital. Visitation will be held April 6 th, from 2pm to 5pm, and April 7 th, from 1pm to 2pm. A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on April 7 th at 2pm at the Belvedere Funeral Complex in Senneville. M. Jean-Guy Desforges de Hawkesbury, natif de Fournier (Ontario), décédé paisiblement le mardi 12 février 2019, à l’âge de 85 ans. Il était l’époux bien-aimé de feu Agathe Couture; le fils de feu Raoul Desforges et de feu Valérie Chénier; le cher père de Ghislain (Danielle Martin) et Daniel (Guyanne Lalande); le grand-père adoré d’Annick (Martin Normand), Lisanne (Kevin St-Jean) et Nicolas (Erin Connolly); l’arrière- grand-père de Charles, Jesse, Charlotte, Florence et Justin. Lui survivent également un frère Paul-Émile (feu Irène Carrière); des belles-sœurs et un beau-frère : Simon Couture (Lucille Lalonde) et Marie-Jeanne Denis (feu André), ainsi que des neveux, nièces et ami(e)s. Il fut prédécédé par ses frères et sœurs : Léa (feu Aldéric Denis), Blanche (feu Josephat Leduc), Henri (feu Aldéa Rozon), Lucien (feu Annette Wathier), Rhéal (feu Lucille Lalonde), Lucille (feu Yvon Lalonde), Aurèle (feu Claue Denis), Laurette (feu Paul-Émile Poirier), Rémi (Gaëtane Dupont), Fernand (feu Rita Parker) et René (Réjeanne Lalonde). Un service religieux aura lieu le samedi 23 février 2019, à 11 h, en l’église Saint- Alphonse-de-Liguori à Hawkesbury. La famille sera présente à l’église à compter de 10 h, afin de recevoir les condoléances. Un merci bien spécial au personnel du Pinecrest Nursing Home à Plantagenet, pour son dévouement, sa compassion et les excellents soins prodigués à Jean-Guy. Chère épouse, maman et grand-maman. Il y a 11 ans, tu nous quittais avec beaucoup de courage, laissant le cœur serré, ceux qui t’aimaient. Jésus te voyait épuisée par la maladie alors Il a apaisé tes souffrances en te chuchotant : «Tu es fatiguée, viens te reposer en paix; ce doux repos, tu l’as mérité, suis- moi.» Avec beaucoup de peine et de respect, nous n’avons pu te retenir. Le grand vide que ton départ a creusé dans nos vies demeure tout aussi douloureux qu’au premier jour. Nous nous consolons en pensant qu’un jour nous serons à nouveau tous réunis avec toi. Levant les yeux vers le ciel, nous te disons : «On t’aime, tu nous manques tellement; ton nom, maman, revient souvent sur nos lèvres.» De là- haut, veille sur nous. Tu es notre ange gardien et tu resteras à jamais dans nos cœurs et dans nos pensées. On ne t’oubliera jamais. Ton époux Guy, tes enfants, tes petits-enfants, tes arrières petit-fils et petite-fille ainsi que ta sœur Yvette.
Vingt ans séparent la dernière fois où l’on a pu se tenir la main et se regarder dans les yeux. Ton visage, ta voix et ton sourire sont gravés à jamais dans nos cœurs. L’œuvre de ta vie se perpétue; tous ceux qui t’ont connu et aimé, qui ont partagé ta vie, voient au prolongement de ton œuvre qui fut de donner, d’aider et d’aimer ton prochain. Merci pour ce bel héritage. Nous te demandons de continuer à veiller sur nous de là-haut, tout comme tu le faisais si bien sur cette terre.
