The 2017 Club year is nearing its end. That means the time of year has come when we look forward to holiday celebrations, including family, food, and gifts galore. It has me thinking though – the acts of giving are really what we should be focusing on all year. You probably don’t even realize all the wonderful opportunities you have had to do a bit of giving. All the little things that you do daily really do matter. Think about all the times you held a door, prayed, shared a smile, cooked something, wrote a note of encouragement, or simply HUGGED somebody who really needed it. These gifts are perhaps even more important than the holiday presents that we make such a fuss about. These gifts are the ones the matter each and every day. Our final issue of MOMENTS Magazine for this Club year is woven with many tales of giving – Sam Butcher’s gift is through his ministry, the fine individuals at Shriners Hospitals for Children share their gifts of knowledge and compassion, and of course our Club Members share the gifts of their very own stories! We are so happy to bring all of these gifts to you. Don’t get me wrong, I cherish the special moments that the holidays have to offer, celebrating our family traditions and adding to them. But this season, let’s all make a pact to keep that spirit of loving and giving with us into spring, summer and fall as well. A MESSAGE FROM PRECIOUS MOMENTS CREATOR, SamButcher
generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” This particular passage got Sam thinking, “Who is the wisest person I know?” President Cory Aquino came to mind, as he is friends with one of her daughters. “She was not only wise, she was very Godly,” Sam explained. When the people of the Philippines were rebelling in the streets, she could be found in a cathedral, in prayer, with a group of Catholic nuns. When people began asking her to become president, she agreed if it “was God’s will.” She spoke five languages fluently and shared a strength and wisdom clearly guided by God’s hand. Sam also looks to Sir Winston Churchill as an example of God’s wisdom. He is admired because of his sensibility and inspiring speeches, yet his demeanor also reminds Sam of Ecclesiastes 5:2 – to keep your words few. So many people today are quick to be proud and to ignore the wisdom of others. Sam urges us to seek out God’s wisdom, even from people we may not see eye to eye with. All we have to do is ask for it, and it will be given. Be sure to read your next issue of MOMENTS Magazine to learn the third thing that God wants you to know!
Nearly 40 years ago, a talented artist named Sam Butcher created uplifting illustrations that became the spark igniting the Precious Moments Collection as we know it today. Over the decades his humor and wisdom have been such blessings. Those who meet him or hear him speak appreciate his humble nature and insightful words. At the Family Reunion Event this past summer at the Precious Moments Chapel, attendees were treated to a rare opportunity – the chance to attend a live talk from Mr. Sam Butcher. He graciously shared “Four Things God Wants You to Know.” In the last issue of MOMENTS Magazine, we relayed how Sam explained that the Lord is a God of mercy. So what’s the second thing God wants you to know? Sam believes it is that He is a God of wisdom. Sam shared examples of God’s wisdom and how He bestows it upon others. In the book of 1 Kings 5:12, we hear about Solomon, the wisest man in the world. God wanted to bless Solomon, and asked him which blessing he would like. Solomon could have asked for anything, but he didn’t ask for a bigger army, more money, power, popularity, or fame. All he asked for was wisdom. The Lord gave him this wisdom, and so much more. With it came power, riches and fame. All he had to do was ask. Hundreds and hundreds of years later, the book of James 1:5, simply says “If any man lacks wisdom, you should ask God who gives

A Collector’s Story
Finding Hope and Healing at the Chapel made the trip. It turned out to be a very good decision. “It was amazing going in there for the first time,” recalls Nicole. “It was so peaceful and I just felt completely different. It was like all the emotions I had after the miscarriage were addressed, and then lifted. Each of the stories and all of the details about the

individuals in the murals of Heaven’s gate, it all gave me hope. I knew my baby went to an unbelievable place and it made me feel at peace.” While at the Chapel she felt strong enough to purchase some gifts for friends of hers who were expecting a child in October. “When we got home, I explained to my friends a little about Precious Moments and they teared up when I gave them their gifts,” says Nicole. “It made me feel really good to give them something special.” It turned out that in September Nicole found out she was
pregnant once again. To share the news with her mother, she bought her a Precious Moments trinket box that said, “Love Is… Grandmother’s Smile.” Needless to say, her mother was overjoyed! They went back to the Chapel in December to see the lights and to make some special purchases for her baby on the way. Her son is now a happy, healthy six-month-old and Nicole looks forward to marking his special occasions with Precious Moments. She knows that it was God that granted her this little “precious moment” for her to love and care for. Nicole and Lori continue to collect together, dropping not- so-subtle hints for gifts they would enjoy. They are planning another trip to the Chapel this winter to enjoy the lights and sounds once again. Their fondness for Precious Moments is something that brings them even closer, allowing them to express emotions and share memories in a unique way.

Nicole Pruitt had been wanting to visit the Precious Moments Chapel for some time. Her mom, Lori, was a long-time collector and she herself had loved Precious Moments since she was a kid. So, Nicole and her parents made plans to make the drive to Carthage, Missouri in July of last year. Tragically, two weeks before the scheduled trip, she suffered a miscarriage. She debated whether or not she should go. She wasn’t sure if she was ready. In the end, at her husband’s urging, she and her parents

Nicole and her whole family love to race and her son Erik just adores race cars. “I’m so glad Precious Moments has boy and girl racing figurines!” exclaims Nicole. It’s just one more way her family can bond over the collection. The Chapel itself is a place that has left a beautiful mark on Nicole’s heart, “One thing became very clear during that first trip. God does things for reasons, and sometimes it doesn’t make sense, but my faith was renewed. It’s something you just can’t understand about the Chapel until you go. Everyone should go.” As for the future of Precious Moments, Nicole sees it as nothing but bright. “Precious Moments are always going to be there to touch hearts, because each one tells a story that we can relate to in our own way. My family’s collection is going to be passed down through the generations because they mean something to us. They tell our story.”

I can’t believe we are headed into Christmas and the end of 2017. It’s been a great year for Precious Moments, which bodes well for the future. This year, we were able to provide you with more Precious Moments items you requested, in addition to the heartwarming figurines you know and love. As many of you may have seen, Precious Moments has received some great press coverage this past three months. Recently, we were featured in an article on Today.com, where the value of many of our historical figurines was trumpeted. Somehow, I think many of you have some of these in your homes! Season’s Greetings Loyal Precious Moments Aficionados,
In addition, Gifts and Decorative Accessories Magazine, named us one of the Top 10 “Gifts of the Century.” Which brings me to the top gift-giving event of the year - Christmas. For me, my memories of Christmas are times filled with hugs and kisses from friends and families, waking up to a bevy of presents under the tree and nervously sitting on Santa’s lap trying to convince him that I was a good boy. Tall order. Above the delicious homemade Polish food, gifts, family and friends, the most important memory was of the holiness of that season. Nothing was as precious as the Nativity in our home, which we set up with my mom. Silent Night was a song which truly let us feel the glory and peace of the season. What could beat Christmas service at the church, with children dressed as angels and timeless Christmas carols focused on the essence of Christmas? Fortunately, this holy aspect of Christmas continues in my family much to the efforts of my wife of 44 years, Laura. As usual, I will enter the upcoming new year with hope and anticipation. For the business, we have the distinct honor of Celebrating 40 Years of Precious Moments with you! We have a lot planned to make it special, so keep tuned to our publications, emails and social media. It couldn’t happen at a better time, as this world really needs the gift of love to be spread more than ever. It’s easy to feel helpless in this environment, so the only thing we can do is share the gift of love with whomever we encounter with our words, hugs, gifts, and prayers.

When Love Comes To The Rescue Meet Isabella Rose
Throughout the year, you have been getting to know some of the special people associated with Shriners Hospitals for Children®. There are so many heartwarming stories and young Isabella’s is one of them. Her journey with Shriners Hospitals is why Precious Moments has partnered with this outstanding organization – to truly make a difference in the lives of children through an outpouring of love, understanding and support.
From birth, Isabella had difficulty feeding and sleeping. Her parents, Roselyne andTim, went from doctor to doctor seeking answers, but no one could identify a cause. As she grew, her parents became convinced that something was seriously wrong. Isabella’s speech sounded like she was whistling and she had ear infections constantly. For five years, Roselyne andTim sought answers for their little girl but continued to be unable to obtain even a cause or a diagnosis.

Some professionals thought Isabella was cognitively impaired; others thought she was deaf. One day a family friend in the Chicago area heard about the issues Isabella was facing and suggested the family apply for treatment for Isabella at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Chicago. The family did not know at the time that their friend’s father was Dick Anderson, a member of Medinah Shriners and, at the time, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Shriners Hospitals-Chicago. Anderson

At their first appointment, an interdisciplinary team of professionals assessed Isabella and, within minutes, provided a diagnosis. Isabella had a submucous cleft palate, a form of cleft palate that is not easily identifiable, as the palate is covered by a thin membrane. “It felt like the whole world came down on us; we finally knew the diagnosis,” said Roselyne. Isabella was scheduled for surgery to repair the cleft and subsequently received speech therapy for two years. Isabella, now 14, lives in Florida with her family. She has gone from struggling to be understood to becoming a gifted vocalist and hopes to perform professionally one day. She volunteers at a local veterinary hospital, pet sits and babysits. She also enjoys painting, poetry and outdoor activities. Not surprisingly, she actively seeks
