ALUMNI

Farzana Doctor ’88 is an author, psychotherapist and activist who was recently awarded the 2023 Freedom to Read Award by The Writer’s Union of Canada (TWUC). She is an award-winning author and speaker whose books are often seen on “best of” lists each year, including her four novels and poetry collection. For many years, she curated the Brockton Reading Series in her west Toronto neighbourhood. A long-time volunteer with TWUC, Farzana also co-founded the End FGM Canada Network, a non- partisan group of individuals and organizations working to end female genital mutilation.

Omar Gomez ’99 visited the school with his family in December. After graduating from ITESM (Tec de Monterrey), a private university in Mexico, in 2003 in the industrial engineering program, he became an entrepreneur in the commercial engineering industry, and owns Flocreative, an advertising agency in Mexico.

Chris Phillips ’00 visited Albert College with his wife, Janna, and daughter, Jada, in January 2023.

1990s

Jennifer (Mie) Lee ’02 is enjoying her new role as a mother to her beautiful daughter, Haerin, who is now a year-and-a-half old. She had been in Belleville visiting friends and family before returning home to Seoul, Korea to join her husband, Harrison Yoon ’02 . Jennifer is enjoying teaching English and tutors up to 12 students from her home. It was great to hear that Jennifer still meets up every year with her Albert College alumni friends.

Munira Harp Cruces ’90 visited the school in August during a recent stay in nearby Prince Edward County, Ontario. She enjoyed a school tour with Director of Enrolment Management Heather Kidd, and reminisced about the last time she visited in 2007 for Albert College’s 150th anniversary reunion.

Victor Hsu ’95 visited the school in February with his wife, Sherina, and son, Colin, on one of the coldest winter days in Belleville. The family was on their way to the Ontario Winter Games in Renfrew and stopped by the school for a visit. Victor works in human resources at Fidelity Investments in Toronto. Victor shared that his fondest memory at Albert was being a Prefect in his graduating year.
