06 - PRIORITIZATION OF NEEDS AND ACTION PLAN As discussed in the plan development process, work sessions with the Park Board and Park Staff were held to discuss public feedback and determine priorities. The discussions yielded the following items. Some of the priorities remained the same as the 2011 plan: • More Multi-Use trail connections throughout the city - high priority
• Design and construction of football and soccer practice fields at Meadow Creek Park. • Park signage at new implementation sites Taking each and every bit of information gathered in this assessment of the City of DeSoto, we can now prioritize recommendations to continue the strong development of DeSoto’s parks, recreation, open-space, and trails.
• Additional restrooms at parks and trail heads - high priority • Recreation center - high priority but will take time to fund • Splash Pad - high priority • Inclusive Playground - High priority • Indoor Pool/Aquatics Center - high priority however funding will be a long-term goal • Skate park - potentially a first-rate facility that would draw users from outside of DeSoto. While the public demand may not reflect the need for one, they felt it would be a desired facility • Funding - stressed the importance of development funding as well as funding for operations and maintenance. One last factor to examine are items that were recommended and/or implemented from the previous Master Plan. Accomplishments from previous Master Plan: • Design of Loop trail at Mantlebrook Park - Estimated construction completion spring 2020 • Design of Trail Connection to extend Roy Orr Trail to Wintergreen Road - Estimated construction completion spring 2020 • Design of Desoto Ranch Nature Trail - Estimated construction completion fall 2019 • Design of Roy Orr Trail extension to Alpine: Spring 2020 • Roy Orr Trail Mile Markers
• Design for restroom improvements at Grimes Park - BMX facility - 2019 • Site plan location for Multi-generational facility at Meadow Creek Park
