GO BEYOND APPLES HOW TO CELEBRATE TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY

We all know teachers impact children’s lives daily, but Dr. Schermer probably understands it better than most. He grew up in a teaching family. His parents were teachers, grandparents on both sides of his family also taught, and his wife teaches today. But he notes that his wife’s teaching environment differs significantly from previous generations. Teachers need our support now more than ever. But while teachers are always grateful for families’ efforts, they probably have enough apples, candles, and personal care products. Many teachers say the best gift they can receive is a message about their impact on students. Even though National Teacher Appreciation Day was on May 2, you and your child can still show their teachers you care, no matter what day it is.

made a difference in your life as a parent, don’t be afraid to share that in your own letter, either.

These days, most people carry a camera in their pocket, but that doesn’t make a personalized video any less meaningful. Children who

enjoy creating and editing videos can let their imaginations run wild to make a tribute that will knock their teacher’s socks off. But the less technologically inclined can also record

WRITE A LETTER. Whether your child is learning to write

or working on their college essays, countless teachers report loving a personalized letter of appreciation. Many even save them and read them for inspiration on bad days. Your student can share what they’ve learned from their teacher or recount special moments from class. And if a teacher has

a simple clip of a student sharing why they love their teacher. You can even turn this into a community project by enlisting other parents and students to contribute their recordings. The result will be a tear-jerking memento a teacher can always cherish.
