REGION EXPECTED TO ENTER RED ZONE NEXT WEEK

Eastern Ontario is expected to be de- clared a red zone from the beginning of next week, after more than 70 new cases were reported over the weekend. The rise was more than double that recorded on the previous weekend, when 35 new cases were reported. Seventeen of the 71 new cases were reported in Prescott-Russell, predominately in the Rus- TFMMNVOJDJQBMJUZ5IFSJTFBDSPTTUIF&BTUFSO 0OUBSJP)FBMUI6OJU &0)6 XBTDFOUSFEPO Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, with 30 new cases, and Cornwall, with 24. 5IF&BTUFSO0OUBSJP)FBMUI6OJU &0)6 had 227 active cases on Monday, the first time there had been more than 200 cases since February 5. At that time, the region remained in lockdown as part of a province- wide stay at home order. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roum- eliotis said the weekend rise was linked to a mix of outbreaks, clusters, and community spread. He said he would recommend the region enter the red zone later this week. “Unfortunately, I have no choice, you saw the numbers,” he said. “Unless we get a miraculous decrease over the next couple of days [the area will enter red].” The province was expected to announce a decision about the region’s place in the colour-coded measures on Friday. Outbreaks There was one outbreak reported in Prescott-Russell in the east wing of the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital. The goal is to make the downtown core, including specific locations like the Place des Pionniers, ready for the summer season when pandemic restrictions may be relaxed and allow larger public gatherings outdoors and the area can serve as a site for special events again that promote pedestrian traffic. &TUJNBUFEDPTUGPSUIFQSPKFDUJT The town must provide the initial money for the project and the HCI grant, if approved, would then reimburse the municipality. Council voted to authorize the planning department to apply for an HCI grant.
Hawkesbury council will ask for federal funding help for a proposal to beautify Main Street before the start of the summer. Council reviewed a report from the plan- ning department for plans to spruce up the appearance of the Main Street area of downtown Hawkesbury and encourage more pedestrian traffic in the neighbourhood. The proposal follows up on past planning studies for revitalization of the downtown core. During the early weeks of the pandemic last year the federal government set up the Health Communities Initiative (HCI). The program goal is to help local municipalities “adapt their public spaces to the health crisis” and offer more opportunities for resi- dents to get out and about for recreation and

How to reduce your risk of getting cancer
According to the Canadian Cancer So- ciety, about four in 10 cancer cases can be prevented by adopting healthy lifestyle habits. This means you can take steps to reduce your risk of getting cancer. In honour of Daffodil Month, which is a national fundraising campaign for cancer research and support services, here are some choices you can make that will put you on the path to healthy living. • Quit smoking. It’s estimated that 30 per cent of all cancer deaths in Canada are a result of smoking. Giving up this habit can reduce your risk of getting cancer. • Protect yourself from the sun. Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, but it’s also among the most preventable. Practise sun safety by covering up, seeking shade, using sunscreen, putting on a hat and wearing sunglasses. • Maintain a healthy weight. You can reduce your risk for several types of cancer if you have a healthy body weight. Consult your doctor to determine what a healthy body weight is for you. • Eat a healthy diet. A diet composed of a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins will provide the nutrients you need and help you maintain your health. • Limit alcohol consumption.

Or, en juillet 2020, un sondage mené par la Société canadienne du cancer a révélé que près de la moitié (47 %) des personnes souffrant d’un cancer et leurs aidants ont rapporté avoir vu leurs rendez-vous de suivi et leurs soins être repoussés, voire interrompus… CONSÉQUENCES FATALES Considérant que les rendez-vous de dé- pistage et de traitements contre le cancer se sont vus repoussés au cours de l’année dernière et le sont encore aujourd’hui dans plusieurs régions, la Société cana- dienne du cancer s’attend à observer un tsunami de diagnostics, dont certains ar- riveront trop tard. Si aucune action n’est prise, cela pourrait se traduire par des dé- cès qui auraient pu être évités. ACTIONS INDIVIDUELLES La meilleure façon de soutenir les gens
atteints de cancer est de tout faire pour mettre fin à cette pandémie. Sur le plan individuel, chacun peut contribuer à protéger les personnes vulnérables en respectant à la lettre les consignes de san- té publique et en se faisant vacciner dès que cela s’avère possible. Par ailleurs, si vous croyez avoir des symptômes de cancer et que vous êtes inquiet pour votre santé, n’hésitez pas à prendre rendez-vous chez votre médecin. de Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard. Pour accompagner cette communauté alarmée, j’ai pris l’initiative d’embaucher un consultant expert responsable d’animer une table de concertation régionale, d’outiller les forces vives du milieu et de faciliter le processus collaboratif entre elles. Les membres de cette table ont fait preuve d’une grande vigilance et leurs données récoltées avec rigueur ont contribué à l’ordonnance ministérielle exigeant qu’Hydro-Québec corrige la situation. Susciter l’espoir et encourager nos talents d’ici. Cette dernière année a été obnubilée par la pandé- mie de la Covid-19 occupant beau- coup d’espace dans nos vies, dans nos quotidiens. Parmi les initiatives mises de l’avant par le bureau de la circonscription d’Argenteuil en colla- boration avec différents partenaires : la réalisation de six capsules-web humoristiques et sensibilisatrices, Les aventures de Constance et Marcel au temps de la Covid ainsi que la réalisation d’une vidéo sur la persévérance scolaire avec nos en- seignants de la polyvalente Lavigne et des employeurs de la région. Avec la vaccination de masse qui a débuté il y a quelques semaines maintenant, j’entrevois avec enthou- siasme la possibilité de retourner à votre rencontre, dans vos milieux, afin d’être encore mieux à votre écoute pour qu’Argenteuil soit à la hauteur de vos rêves et de vos aspirations. Pour qu’Argenteuil soit fière !
Je me suis lancée en politique avec la conviction qu’une députée doit être une ressource à l’écoute des voix qui savent se faire entendre et surtout de celles des autres, plus vulnérables et plus discrètes. Plus que jamais, dans ce contexte que nous traversons et affrontons, je pense être cette accompagnatrice qui cherche des solutions créatives pour en arriver à des résultats profi- tables pour toutes et pour tous. Avec les partenaires de tous horizons que je rencontre, j’essaie d’être cette bougie d’allumage pour initier des projets mettant en valeur les talents, les compétences et la créativité des gens d’ici. C’est ma définition d’un leadership rassembleur. C’est cette énergie qui nous anime, les membres de mon équipe et moi, depuis le premier jour. Nous créons des liens avec une multitude d’ac- teurs bien ancrés dans les différents milieux, et travaillons à maintenir ce précieux canal de communication. Faire autrement pour susciter la fierté. C’est dans cet élan qu’est né le projet de création de l’enseigne extérieure du bureau de circonscrip- tion avec les jeunes du Carrefour jeunesse emploi d’Argenteuil. Nous voulions donner une valeur collective à un objet représentatif. Intervenir devant une situation qui nous dépasse et nous inquiète. L’exemple qui m’a le plus marquée fut probablement les impacts des travaux liés à la ligne du Grand-Brûlé sur les milieux humides et hydriques

community. Children’s services librarian Alicia Heinzle started recruiting residents for a small local team to supply a pollinator pot, whether on lawns, in pots, an old wheelbarrows or buggies. She was also on the hunt for native plants and flowers to add to the project. In a statement, the library said the project would give residents the chance to improve the community’s ecosystem. “The plantings provide habitat to support local insects like wild bees and butterflies, while making the neighbourhoods greener, healthier and wilder,” the library said in the statement. Champlain Library will help return bees and butterflies to neighbourhoods after being selected for as a Butterflyway Ranger as part of the David Suzuki Foundation’s Butterflyway Project. Launched in 2017, the Butterflyway Proj- ect was designed to establish habitats for local bees and butterflies in communities throughout the country. In its first four years, 1,008 project vol- unteers planted more than 54,000 native wildflowers in more than 1000 pollinator patches acoss more than 100 Canadian communities.
