In the Pipeline Q3 2018

Pirtek Racing – Title challenge

It doesn’t seem like five minutes since the covers were taken off Pirtek Racing’s new-look British Touring Car Championship challenger, but the 2018 season has already reached the halfway stage. With five rounds down and five left to run after the summer break, the team

finds itself well placed in the battle for honours in the series’ 60th anniversary season. At the wheel of his West Surrey Racing-run BMW for a second successive season, Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan headed for Brands Hatch in early April feeling optimistic about his chances – having taken victory in the corresponding meeting last year. On what would be a landmark weekend for the 2013 champion, who celebrated his 300th start in the series, there would be a trip to the podium once again after a fine drive to third spot in the opening race of the weekend.

It meant the new-look Pirtek Racing BMW – running in a special livery to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pirtek UK – had the honour of securing the 100th podium finish for the 125i M Sport since it was introduced into the series. Mixed weather ahead of race two led to a gamble over which tyres to run, with Andrew matching the drivers around him in choosing wet tyres. As it was, the drying circuit favoured the slick-shod runners and Andrew was unable to add to his points tally, with contact in race three similarly holding him back.
