Le conseil municipal de Hawkesbury a voté à l’unanimité, jeudi soir dernier, afin de permettre la vente au détail de produits du cannabis dans la ville. Bien que le vote ait finalement été adopté à l’unanimité, il n’a pas eu lieu sans dis- cussion. Les conseillers ont pris le temps d’exprimer certaines préoccupations en autorisant la vente au détail de cannabis à Hawkesbury, notamment le fait que cela n’empêchera probablement pas le marché noir. « Les moins de 19 ans iront toujours au marché noir, a affirmé le conseiller Yves Paquette. Une autre préoccupation est que le marché noir est apparemment moins cher. » M. Paquette, avec l’accord d’autres conseil- lers, a également exprimé sa frustration à l’égard de la province qui s’est déchargée de cette question sur les municipalités. Dans l’ensemble, cependant, le conseil a convenu que la légalisation du cannabis est désormais une réalité et qu’il serait illo- gique, d’un point de vue commercial, de se détourner d’une telle possibilité. « Hawkes- bury étant un marché commercial, il est nécessaire d’avoir des services complets ici, a commenté Lawrence Bogue. La municipalité de La Nation a tenu à préciser qu’en aucun cas il n’a été question de manquer de transparence envers ses citoyens. On se souvient que la semaine dernière, David Mushing, résident de la municipalité de La Nation, avait déposé une lettre auprès de l’ombudsman provincial et du bureau du commissaire à la protection de la vie privée, dans laquelle il explique ses inquiétudes au sujet de la façon dont le conseil aurait traité le projet du futur dôme sportif de Limoges. M. Mushing, candidat défait lors des dernières élections municipales d’octobre dernier, avait également alerté les médias régionaux alléguant que les membres du conseil de la Nation auraient mal géré l’af- faire, avec un manque de « transparence » avec le grand public et les contribuables concernant un règlement extrajudiciaire possible de 250 000 $ pour Saint Joseph Properties Ltd , l’entrepreneur embauché pour ce projet. Le maire François St-amour s’est exprimé lors de la séance du conseil du 7 janvier der- nier en précisant que le conseil municipal a annoncé que les quatre firmes d’architectes qu’ils ont choisies et approuvées seront invitées à soumettre une proposition pour la construction du complexe sportif et du
